JD45
In another thread L2S mentioned having a 9mm upper fit to a 1911. What do you have to change when you switch back and forth? I hope the ejector can be left alone.
diehli
It depends. In all likelihood you would need to replace the ejector if going from .45 to 9mm. With .40 you might be able to get away with the same ejector given the comparable case lengths of 9mm and .40.
Gregory_k
I am thinking of doing the same. I was figuring on getting a complete slide and barrel and just swamping when the gf wants to shoot.
harald
I have a 2011 frame with a 9mm top and a 40 top, no problems If You was thinking 9 switching to 45 you have to change ejector

I hope the ejector can be left alone. The same ejector and slide stop can be made to fit both. I have an STI with 9mm and .40 top ends, all I swap is the top ends. I believe it's the .40/.45 slide stop, and you may have to tweak the magazine follower's foot to get reliable slide lock back.
Loves2Shoot
It isn't a big deal to swap out the ejector either.
Radical Precision Designs
It isn't a big deal to swap out the ejector either. +1 on that. I can understand you want to be able to change it on the spot and just get going inmediateley. Some people leave the lock pin out of the ejector to facilitate this exchange, although not recommended...
JD45
Thanks for the ideas. A whole gun sounds more appealing since mine is a .45.
