austinkroe
I have a beautiful nickel Colt Python with an 8" barrel. The thing is, I mostly shoot IDPA and I am interested in starting to use a wheelgun. If I buy a new 4" barrel: How hard is it to change the barrels? Can I do it myself? How do you change them? Is it worth it? Should I just get a new gun and not tear up such a fine revolver? Edited February 25, 2006 by austinkroe
n2ipsc
I have a beautiful nickel Colt Python with an 8" barrel. Should I just get a new gun and not tear up such a fine revolver? This would be my vote, my financial dictator not withstanding... "Beautiful Pythons" are increasingly scarce - and two in the hand is better than one in the gunsmiths' shop, to butcher a hackneyed cliché
michaels
If you really like Pythons, but don't have one, make one...get a Trooper, they sell much cheaper and put a 4" barrel on it, get the double action fixed and if you want to be really trick, get it hard chromed. One of kind sort of...been seeing a couple of these around lately, haven't seen any decent speed loaders for them... You could go with a Smolt, get an older Smith 38/357 and drop the Python barrel on it, then you could use Comp 3 loaders on it...makes for an interesting looking gun... michaels
revchuck
You could also find yourself a 4" Official Police, like I did. Same action and frame size, same speedloaders, just a non-underlugged barrel and pretty visible fixed sights.
MikeFoley
Your Python will bring enough on today's market to build two S&W's. Edited February 26, 2006 by fomeister
