usmc1974
I was wondering does anybody shoot service rifle, anymore with iron sights or is this just a thing that's long gone ? Wasn't this the true test of Marksmanship?
John Whidden
There are a few holdouts, but not very many. Scopes have taken over the winning as you'd expect.
usmc1974
So pure old-fashioned long range marksmanship with iron sights is a thing of the past?

Maybe you could shoot Palma assuming people still do that? And you can still shoot irons in service rifle, but you will be shooting against scopes as far as I know
John Whidden
Both the CMP and NRA national championships require iron sights to be shot in some of the individual long range matches, so that means both scopes and sights for those events. Palma is still all iron sight. Edited September 22, 2022 by John Whidden clarity
Merlin Orr
Iron sights are a young mans (or young eyes) game. Pretty hard to find anywhere with anyone shooting now.
Modoc
I’m still seeing them and using them, but….. This is at NMLRA matches and some of the NRA Silhouette matches that don’t allow optics. Oh, also at the various Rendezvous.
