Bought this carbine the other day and I'm planning on using it for Steel Challenge.  Since the video I've added a red dot optic.  Thought? Thanks

if it's a pistol, it won't be legal for sanctioned Steel Challenge.

I would avoid pistols for many reasons, mainly legality in the sport of SC and ergonomics.
