m39nut
I have been using a red dot but as I age it doesn't look like my eyes like it anymore at long distances. I noticed Nikon has knocked the price from $399 to $199 on their website. Since where I shoot doesn't go much beyond 100 yards for 3 gun I think 1-4 will be adequate. For $200 is it a good buy or should I buy the Steiner PX4 for about $650 new? My biggest concern is the reticle. The Steiner appears to be better at making a precision shot if necessary. Also are there any known QC issues with the Nikon? Any advice would be appreciated! Edited September 14, 2019 by m39nut
chauncey
Using the Nikon on a 5.56 rifle? I had Nikon Prostaff's on 308 semi autos and they wouldn't take the recoil. Or more accurately probably the bolt return impetus
m39nut
Yes, it'll be on a 5.56. Right now I am leaning towards the PX4i, seems to be more of a proven commodity and I would rather just buy once than to blow $200 and then end up buying the PX4i anyway. wgj3
Steiner is decidedly better optic!
m39nut
Okay now that I have decided pretty much on a Steiner what would be the best mount for it?
chauncey
I have had success with SWFA mounts. They run maybe a little on the heavy side, but are durable
NoKimberDave
I have my Steiner in an Aero extended mount. 1/3 the weight of most other options. And affordable.
m39nut
Have you found the Aero to be stable? Especially if the placement in the drop bucket in a 3 gun match is a little rough.....
