180gr Blue Bullets with Sport Pistol in a CZ TSO.

Here is some data from yesterday and today's short trial period.  I was previously having feeding issues with factory MagTech 180gr FMJ FP as well as the 180gr Blues loaded to 1.125".  Any number of things were tried including mag springs, polishing the extractor and breech face, super cleaning the gun etc.  Turns out, this gun seems to like 1.140 to 1.150 ammo better, at least in this short test.  Everything up to 1.155 or so would plunk and spin just fine but I wanted a hair shorter for magazine fit.  Higher quantity and accuracy testing to follow, hopefully next weekend.  To come up with the 4.5gr load I checked Alliants data for a 180gr ACME at 1.160 max of 5gr and subtracted 10%.  Also, looking at their data for a Speer 180gr plated at 1.120" max is also 5gr.

I really like this Sport Pistol powder.  It doesn't meter quite as well as the CFE-P I was using for 9mm, it may improve after the new powder measure gets more use, but it's close and is a lighter color that's easy to see in the 40 case.  Minimum charge isn't sooty so far.  It was too windy to test for smoke but the gun doesn't seem any dirtier than the factory ammo I was using.   I have high hopes for the 1.145 COL load, if its accurate that will be the one.

Temp was about 60* both days, windy and sunny with the chrono at 15' from muzzle.  PF calculated off of Average fps.

So, YMMV, use at your own risk and gun etc.

This compared to around 187 PF with MagTech factory and 180gr Blues at 1.130 at 5.9gr, min charge, of CFE-P.  CFE-P is sooty at lower charge weights so I'm not sure if I'm going to try again at the slightly longer COL.

I agree that bullets that are too short for a particular gun are just as problematic as those that are too long.

When I tested my CZ .40 loads in my STI, 1-2 bullets per mag would get hung up on the feed ramp.  The CZ will eat 1.13 OAL all day long, the STI not so much, that gun likes 1.16 or so.

After several thousand rounds, I’ve settled on the shorter length and 4.5gr of Sport Pistol.

180gr Blue Bullet

4.5gr Sport Pistol

WSPP

1.125” COAL

Mixed brass

173-175 PF

Also, dumps brass nicely about 6-7’ away with a 14lb recoil and 15lb hammer spring.

That’s almost my exact load, thanks for the info.
