Schultz77
Hey guys I am working on my range and am wanting to use the targets I have. I am trying to build my own target stands. I want to make a static IPSC target but Mine have the two holes like to hang with straps. I don’t know if or how to make it safe to shoot up close with a pistol being static. If anybody has any ideas or has done it I’d appreciate the help!
wixthedog
One way is to use longer than needed carriage bolts with a backing nut on each. Use rubber or small chain and capture that at the very end of the carriage bolts using two nuts/washers each. This would allow for a level of deflection needed. The stand design itself would go from there, maybe a single upright that allows you to hide the straps/chain behind the IPSC plate.
nvgeologist
Carriage bolts, angle the upright to put the target at about 15* of forward fall. It'll be fine. I've actually pretty much stopped using swinging steel myself for pistols entirely, and mostly for rifle as well.
The Donald
Fastnal has grade 8 Carriage bolts, not cheap, but with take a rifle hit. Use them double nutted to hold the back bracket.
