Kenj59
I just bought a 224 Vakryie and am new to precision rifle. I'm looking at scope mounts and trying to figure out what would be best to use, a standard or a 20 MOA mount. Could someone enlighten me on mounts and what the differences are. Thanks in advance! The Donald
Depends on your scope and distance you are shooting. After 500-600 yards the 20 MOA mount helps a bit because a bullet will start dropping with distance.
Kenj59
I've ordered a Nikon FX1000 6x24. There's going to be a big learning curve for me on shooting long range, but there is a range near me that goes out to 600 yards and another within driving distance that has 1000 yards. I'm guessing for starting out I would be better off with a standard mount as I learn to stretch the distances out and develop my dope?
The Donald
A 20 MOA scope mount is fine, you will only go in one direction from where you zero your rifle.

highhope
Choose a " useable" mount as low as possible. First of all, you need to know your base is a 0moa or 20moa. Besiclly, you want a 20moa or 30moa total (base + mount) cant angle depend on your normally long range shooting distance. If it's 20moa base already, you can just choose a pair of 0moa scope rings, like "TPS, Seekins Precision, nightforce etc". If you want one piece mount, depend on your optics, need to know 1. Objective lens size. 2. Erector Housing to main tube distance. MPA is very good choice https://masterpiecearms.com/shop/mpa-ba-bolt-action-mount/ and you can check these mounts too https://precisionrifleblog.com/2018/12/25/best-scope-mount/
