robert.a.brewer.
More than once I have managed to pull the trigger and drop the hammer while working on my TS with the slide off the frame. I have heard this is not good, but what damage can occur?
kneelingatlas
I don't think you have anything to worry about, but the hammer is hitting the sear cage and the sear cage is held in place by the safeties, so I guess if you did it all the time you might peen those parts and possibly break them. mjmagee67
Yea me thinks you need to do it a whole bunch of times to cause damage. I've done it once or twice on several guns. I try not to but poop happens.
IDescribe
The machine was engineered for particular parts to impact particular parts in particular places. When you drop the hammer with the slide off, you now have a part striking something it wasn't meant to strike, and you have a part not meant to be struck be anything being struck. It's not worth it to try to assess the risk with every pistol. It's best practice to simply avoid it as much as possible.
