kells81
This may seem like a dumb question but here goes. With my CZ's I played around with the recoil spring and its slick. I think originally it had a 16 and I have been running a 13# reliably. Can the same thing be done with a commander sized 1911?
bokbok_05
Stock spring weight on a commander size 1911 .45 cal is 18lbs.
kells81
My question is about running less than stock or recoil spring tuning. Stock is 18 but could a 13/14 be ran without beating the gun to death?
racknrider
Don't see why not. Wouldn't it be the same as running a lightened slide on a full size? Throw a shok buff in there and see.
Steve in Allentown PA
Shorter than 5" 1911s often will have problems with shock buffs due to the reduced amount of available slide travel. If you experience bolt-over-base malfunctions, failures-to-lock-open, or anything else you didn't experience before you put in the shock buff, take it out. texasref
Commanders usually have a very heavy mainspring (mine was 22#) Changed mine out to 17# main and 16# recoil. runs fine. I agree with Steve above, stay away from the shock buffs.
