Rye
Trying to ream a friend's barrel. Its an SV barrel 5 port ribbed no hole in 9mm 5.4". Trying to ream it for 38sc. However, the reamer won't go through. It's so tight. Is this normal? If i push it will it damage the barrel? Thanks.
Sarge
I was always told you can't convert those because the 9mm case head is bigger than 38?

MrPostman
Are you using a lathe? It makes it so much easier.
T Bacus
In general, yes, you can re-ream a 9X19 barrel to 38 Super or Super Comp. The chamber will be a little over sized at the base end but this will not be a functional issue, just a little hard on your brass. Your problem is not this, your problem is the front of your reamer, the pilot, is larger in diameter than the inside of the barrel is. This is probably only by a couple of thousands of an inch, but if you force it you will mar and scratch the inside of the barrel. you either need a reamer with a smaller diameter pilot, or have your reamer ground down a couple of thousandths of an inch. Good point,if the pilot is too large then you will need a smaller one. What brand reamer are you using? And does it have a live pilot? If so you can swap to a smaller pilot bushing, and it should work fine.
