Leroy
I am just getting started into reloading and i read in the Nossler manual that you should use a 357 dia bullet for 38 supper...Will this work or will it go Boom!!!
BrianH
Yeah. It'll work....just ask BE...he shot 170 gr. bullets in his Super at the...um....'88 Nationals or something. (Sorry, I can't help it....) I don't know how well, though, and I think the ID of your barrel will be an issue, too. Some barrels, like Nowlin, are a little tighter, and thus your pressures are going to be higher. Needless to say, work you load up all over again. 2alpha
To start with the old reloading books listed .357 bullets for supers because most supers barrels where at least .356 if not .357 back then. Those 170's were cast and I don't know which ones BE used but there were .356 diameters available back then. If you're talking Jacketed bullets they are going to be .357 and your barrel is probably .355. Higher pressure will result so back the load way off to start. Hard to think of a reason to use .357 in a modern super.
Leroy
Thanks This info is in the Nosler guide Number 4 book. I have a new springfield 1911-a1 mil spec. everyone i talk to here that is experienced in re loading says to use a 355.. so i think that is the safe way to go. thanks again for the input..
