I own one of these pistols and was wondering what it would take to make it a 9mm (preferably) or a .40 cal?

Just looking at options since I have already invested the money in this one, and it's a low serial numbered Eagle.

You'll need a new top end, slide/barrel (and bushing if not bull)/ejector/extractor/firing pin/sights, etc. and then it'll have to be fitted to your frame.

Unless the gun was used by a shooter of some significance, I don't know that it being a low serial # is of much importance for resale value. That's not to say some collector may find that to be of interest, but the gun has also been completely rebuilt.

For a complete new top end you'll be in the ballpark of about $800-$1000. Depends on parts, smith and refinishing costs and whether or not it needs to be mailed for the work. Overnight shipping is a killer.

FYI, this gun could still be used for competition without bein handicapped. It fits nicely into USPSA L10 or IDPA CDP or ESP. Just some food for thought.

In most cases, having a new top end built up, fitted and finished to a 1911 costs as much as a good used gun of the same variety.

I figured it might be cost prohibitive. otherwise everyone would be doing it.
