Steelhead season!

Great day Steelhead fishing, it had been raining and the water was prettty muddy at the feeder streasm, and the guide almost cancelled, but we gave it a shot, and it was great. I Hooked 7 adults, landed 4, a couple of browns (biggest, not by me ~ 22"), and my friend hooked 6 adults.

Lost a couple that fought like hell, sure don't mind losing them that way.

First fish of the day:

This one was maybe just over 30" (guide measured it)

Merlin... this one was about $400, split 2 ways, not bad.

We drive up the night before, stay and at the boat at :800.

Guides run $250-$325. This guide is the highest and worth it. We saw another guide at the put in, say "nope, come back tomorrow", while ours figured with the rains stopped, the water would clear enough to make it worth it.

It did, he was right on. With less than optimal water, still hooking 7 was great, although landing 4 was the lowest for me. Much better than some other folks.

Northern California... Trinity River

Most of the big costal rivers are supposed to be good...

Smith, Eel, Klamath...

You know the ones when you hook one and don't land any.

I've heard those stories... I've been 5 times now, and so far, 4 (this trip) was the fewest landed (knock-knock-knock on wood). The guide keeps saying, I'm going to have a day like that, but so far, luckily, they've all been great.

going again this Tuesday...
