jmcqueen
I am building a Texas Star and wonder if 1/4" AR 500 will be thick enough for the plates. Mostly 9mm and a little 45, no rifle.
Dr. Phil
Mine on my 1st star are 5/16" what used to be called "boiler plate". After a summer of shooting I usually have to put the plates in a press and flatten them out. No biggie. Mine are 6"x8" rectangle. My 2nd star has 6" round 3/8 plates. They never bend. Guesss that's the breakover point? 3/8"? Good luck on yours. You will love it!!
toothandnail
We use 1/4" on our first one, they cuped, not real bad as we tried to keep flipping the face. 3/8" minimun on every thing after that, no problems.
jmcqueen
It looks like 3/8 is the way to go.
jmorris
The original TX star used 3/8" plate IIRC AR400.
