Stuffing butt stocks with weights?

I couldn't find this through the search feature, I was wondering why some people stuff their butt stocks with weights? I have a lightweight ironsighted barrel/handguard/ and an ACS stock that I can put lead weights into. Does a heavier stock with a light weighted front end increase mobility or just help with recoil reduction? Maybe I'm missing something?

I know weighting the stock (and everywhere else they can add weight without changing the outward appearance of the rifle) is popular with High Power shooters, especially in the Service Rifle division. They even make lead weights shaped precisely to fit into the A2 stock's cleaning kit compartment just for that.

Part of it is for balance, part of it is to have more mass to absorb recoil.
