Fire clean gumming up In the cold?

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I was at the 3GN qualifier match. It was quite cold in the morning with temps in the upper 20s. One shooter in particular shotguns was so gummed up it couldn't cycle. I was just wondering is this a running issue with Fire clean.

Yes, I've had it thicken up to the point the slide wouldn't cycle. Easy fix, don't put it on too heavy. Can't really say it was gummy, more like "Karo" syrup! Wipe off the excess before reassembly, and all is good.

BTW, I've been very pleased with it after using it exclusively for one year. Carbon just doesn't stick anymore.

I shoot often in the cold temps of MN. Our first match will likely see the temp at 10 to 20 degrees when it warms up in a couple of weeks. It takes some time for the cold to set into the metal of the gun. Prior to shooting in the cold my guns all get a new layer of oil, Militech for me. Then when it is my turn I cycle the heck out of each gun before I make 'em ready.
