mid length question

Sounds like you want to shorten the 5" slide at least 1/2" for the threads. You will most likely be cutting into the tapered portion of the cone.

But all is not lost.

You could take a regular 5" barrel, cut it, thread it and then add a conversion cone. Match the finished length of the slide to the placement of the cone. But due to the length of the cone, there is a limit on how much you can cut off the end of the slide.

Also you need to think about how you want to handle the reverse plug. I don't know of anyone that carries them on the shelf so you might need to make one.

Tim Calhoun did exactly that for me on the limited gun in post 780. Ended up with a 6-inch barrel with a 4.5 inch slide. A bit more extreme that the OP suggests, but the concept works great. This uses a standard 5-inch guide rod and plug.
