Duane Thomas
Looking for a new lens for my digital camera. Not to parade my ignoriance here - he said, just before parading his ignorance - but what the hell is a "Macro A" lens? I understand the "macro" part, in fact I want and need a new macro, but it's the "Macro A" part I don't iunderstand.
The_Vigilante
The only macro lens I could find was a Mamiya with the designation "A". Suspect you will have to contact Mamiya to find out what the "A" means, if anything.
Duane Thomas
I think that later on today I'll be in a camera shop asking that question.

Tom C
Found an article that might help you. Here is the link: http://support.us.ricoh-imaging.com/node/3 Good shooting my friend. Just me but I'd go with a newer auto focus lens....They usually provide a manual over ride. Edited March 8, 2014 by Tom C
Duane Thomas
Thanks, Tom. That was a very interesting article. I do prefer to choose my own shutter speed rather than have the camera do it for me, however.
Duane Thomas
This is the lens I'm using BTW, and it is an "A" lens: http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-AF-90mm-2-8-Di/dp/B0007YZLIK I was just curious what the "A" stands for. Now I know: auto aperture control.
Tom C
Thanks, Tom. That was a very interesting article. I do prefer to choose my own shutter speed rather than have the camera do it for me, however. For me it depends on what I'm shooting...A kids birthday or something really fast action I mostly use Auto. I am a "child" of the old school (first camera was a Canon Ftb) so I will often revert to manual when it's more a matter of composition. Occasionally I'll use shutter or apature priorety.
