acpie360 Posted November 28, 2013 Share Posted November 28, 2013 Hey, guys, I got a new Springfield 1911-A1, the "loaded" model. The gun uses National Match 2-piece guide rod. I am having trouble unscrewing the front portion of the guide rod. I suspect someone in the factory over-tightened this 2-piece guide rod together since the gun is brand new. Anyway, I tried separating the slide from the frame hoping that I can remove the guide rod from the other end, but it doesn't seem to have enough clearance for the guide rod to be pull out. Heat usually helps... if you have a soldering iron, place the tip close to where the two halves mate up and hold it there for 10 secs or so.
