spd522 Posted March 12, 2014 Share Posted March 12, 2014 There really isn't a good all around color for the steel if there isn't some kind of consistant color backer behind it. With a backer, it isn't as important to me what color the target is painted, as long as the backer isn't a similar color to the target paint or tan/gray for when the paint is shot off. Targets put in shadows are the biggest problem as target contrast changes for just about every squad all day long, no matter what color they are painted. Flatland Shooter Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Having blaze orange 4 MOA long range rifle targets was a great way to make sure everyone could see everything downrange, especially the IRONS shooters. There was no question as to where a target was, or how many there were, regardless of whether it was in the sun / shade / morning / afternoon, and they were still a significant test of rifle skills when being scored by the time plus method... after shooting off a barricade... and running up a hill... I hope that more 3 gun matches make their rifle steel big & bright so shooters can focus on shooting it instead of finding it. Good job guys, looking forward to the next one! This touches on the main complaint I hear about 3 gun matches with long range targets sprinkled in. Its also one of the reasons I have avoided some matches. I have created a Topic for the Western Regional and will do my best to post everything in BOTH locations. As always if you have questions, please feel free to contact me. There are still a few open slots for the Vegas match if anyone is interested! In order to make things a bit easier on our shooters, we will start a new thread for each of the Regional events. First update on the Western Regional in Las Vegas, NV Hello Shooters! This is the first of several emails you will receive pertaining to the 3-Gun Nation Western Regional Championship presented by REMINGTON. The match is a two-day format, May 17th-18th with awards immediately following the completion of shooting. Shooter registration will be Friday evening. A detailed schedule for the weekend will follow in the coming weeks. You can safely plan on half-day shooting format. All squads will shoot AM on one day and PM on one day. Online Self Squadding will likely be open in the next week. Once we open this feature, we will email all of you with the squad link.
