rhino
I got to fire a few rounds through a .38 special snubbie and a couple of .22 rifles when I was a kid, but I barely remember it and it wasn't anything "instructional." I didn't really start shooting until 1994, with a couple of different double action 9mm guns, a .40 SIGMA, and eventually the Para-Ordnance P14.45 that was my first USPSA gun and now my primary carry gun. Rifles and shotguns came along in 1995 or so by just "doing it" in 3-Gun matches with other people's guns.
ima45dv8
My father was a career soldier, but Mom won the war: no guns of any kind allowed. No BB guns, or pellet guns, either. Bought my first firearm shortly after turning 21; a 6" S&W Mod. 57/.41 Magnum. Despite my enthusiasm at the time I don't think it was an appropriate first-gun.
