Also if you have some chrono info that would be greatly appreciated. I am going to be new to the world of heavy 3 gun. R112mercer Posted November 20, 2013 Share Posted November 20, 2013 (edited) Welcome to He-Man! I run a Sierra 135 SMK over 46.0 gr. of IMR 4895. Gives me just about 2700 fps out of a 16" barrel. In my Heavy Irons gun I run Sierra 168 SMK's over 43.0 gr. of Varget. No chrono data on that. For 45 I run a 200 SWC from Bayou over 4.1 gr. of Clays. This load makes major. When it runs out I'll go back to reloads. 308- 150 Gr Hornady FMJ over 43 gr of IMR 4895. Dirty Rod Posted November 26, 2013 Share Posted November 26, 2013 Understanding barrel twist and your probable shooting distances might help especially with .308 as your guns will perform better with different bullet types, weights, etc at different distances. That said... 308: 175gr SMK / 44.5gr of Varget = 2661fps out of a 26" barrel. .45: 230gr FMJ/plated ; 5.2gr 231 = 762fps , 6.0gr Unique = 798fps, 6.1gr WSF = 770. 5" barrel Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
