j0s3ph
Is it worth it to use a recoil buffer on a STI SteelMaster? The pistol is designed for minor loads, but the slide is ultra-light. Has anyone tried it?

j0s3ph
I want to ditch the recoil master and go with a guide rod and lower weight spring to balance my gun. I just thought that people use a buffer on their setups without recoilmaster

RocketCity1911
I've tried a guide rod and 7, 8, 9, and 11 lb springs. The 7 and 8 lb springs felt just like the recoilmaster to me. The 9 lb wasn't much different, but more noticable compared to the recoilmaster. The 11 lb was not good at all. The slide slams back into battery rather harshly causing the dot to dip lower than what I'm used to. I went back to the recoilmaster. I figured the dual spring set-up was probably better for the frame then going with the traditional guide rod for a commander length slide like the STI Steelmaster. Note: I did use a government length guide rod and springs. Also, I was shooting major power factor through it. For minor, I wouldn't see a need to use buffers.
