Hello 3gunners!

I'm new to sport shooting and have very little experience with firearms at all. However, it has been something I was interested in getting involved with for a long time. Well.. what better time to start than now!

I don't know much about 3-gun competitions but have been reading what I'm able and trying to learn as much as possible. In particular, the rules, equipment requirements, local matches, etc.

I'm very interested in getting involved with this awesome competion but am wondering about my current gear.

I currently own a Glock 19 and an FNAR (16" barrel) with optics. However, the FNARs have no iron sights.

I've gathered that the FNAR probably isn't the best 3gun rifle but would it be "good enough"? Also, any recommendations on a shotgun?

Also, if there are any other MN folks around I'd love to connect with them!

Thanks!

Welcome aboard from another MN 3-gun shooter. Go check out the MN 3-Gun Group for info on local matches. http://www.mn3gungroup.org/ . Another good avenue for you to reach out to local shooters is MN Guntalk.com http://www.mnguntalk.com/

What you have probably isn't ideal, but it's good enough for you to get a match or two under your belt. The less you spend before hitting your first match the better off you'll be and most 3-gunners (myself included) are happy to loan gear out to a new shooter to help them through a match. First match of the year is coming up in a little over a month, hopefully we will see you there. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

Welcome aboard! be slow to buy and quick to shoot matches. Most matches (I would assume MN is the same) I have been to folks will let you try out their gun after before you buy or even loan one for the shoot.

Welcome Jeremy. Like what Chris (Shooter115) said, check us out at the MN 3-Gun Group's website at http://www.mn3gungroup.org/. You'll find most of the information you'll need there. You can also check us out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MN3GunGroup?v=wall.

We operate our matches at the Minnetonka Game & Fish Club (MGFC) in St Francis or at the St Cloud Area Practical Shooting Association (SCAPSA) Range in Clearwater. We welcome new 3-gunners and we'll make sure to pair you up with a veteran 3-gunner who will guide you through. Our first match of the year is on March 16th at SCAPSA.

Your 9mm handgun is ideal for the Tactical Optics or Tactical Limited Divisions in which .223 caliber rifles and semi-auto shotguns are popular in. But your 308 rifle is ideal for the heavy division in which you'll need a .45 cal handgun and a pump-action shotgun. So your current combination of a 9mm handgun and a 308 rifle is not ideal, but not impossible to work with. When it comes to our matches, there are no prizes to be won (except bragging rights) and we want people to enjoy it. So bring what you got and try out our sport. Then you can make a decision on the other gear you may want to get.
