Navy Shooter
It looks like I might have to find a new career within the next couple of years. What does it take to become a good gunsmith? Would I need to go to a trade school and become a machinist first? Are there recommended schools or trade schools that are geared toward the profession? Being 50 and looking at umemployment is a little scary.
Kingman
There are alot of good gunsmith schools across the country. Bill Wilson teaches at one from time to time. One of the bigger ones is in NC.
davidwiz
Most are going to tell you to become a machinist first and learn how to weld. Then learn the gunsmithing. I think most of the good gunsmiths in this country have gone to some sort of trade school for gunsmithing. Your best bet might be to contact one of the bigger shops and talk to the smith and see what their advice is.
