joestefano
I picked up a 627 PC today. 357/38spl. Is there any advantage to using one or the other for reloading and shooting? I am going to use the gun primarily for steel and some IPSC for a change from my Brazo open gun. I am looking for some load data major/minor. I also own a JM 625 that I would like to shoot IDPA with, I also need recommendations for that load. Thanks in advance for the help.
buckaroo45
My 625 load is fairly standard. 4.1 gr Clays, 230 gr Berry's plated, Federal LP primers loaded at 1.250 oal. Makes 170 PF in both my 4" 625's. Very clean. Very accurate. Just started loading for my 627's and don't have anything useful yet.
joestefano
Are you going to load 357 or 38spl in your 627? and why one over the other?
toothguy
Are you going to load 357 or 38spl in your 627? and why one over the other? Lots of good info in the ICORE area for the 627.
TonyT
I had a supply of357 Magnum brass which I load for steel challenge matches since reloads are not an issue. For games in which reloads count then the shorter 38 Special case is an advantage. I only shoot minor through my 627. With lead and plated 158 gr. RN bullets I use Trail Boss powder. PJones1911
Here are my standard loads for the two guns. I use Bayou 200gr Round Nose or Precision 200gr Round Nose Flat Point with 4.5 grains of Clays for the 45. This gives me a PF of 171 average. I use the same load in my 1911 as well except that I use the 200gr SWC. For 38 Special I use the Bayou 135gr Round Nose with 3.9 grains of Clays which gives me a PF of 134 average. I find Clays to be as clean as it gets in powder. I am primarily an IDPA shooter.
PJones1911
Sorry, I neglected to mention that Clay's is a very soft shooting powder. I wish I could get an adequate load in 9mm with it.
