M&P FS factory sights height

MP9

Recommended Posts

Hi guys..

I would like to get some dawson precision FO sights and rear for my m&p9 FS.. but there are several sights with different wide/tall .. what are the factory measures of the m&p?

I would like to replaces them with something similar in height/wide, so I dont have to adjust my grip. and of course a thin fiber optic, maybe .100..

I dont have a vice, neither space.. would this be so hard to replace the front sight with a hammer and brass punch ?(I have removed the rear sight before so it is not a problem)

what combination rear/front is similar to the factory sights. how wide is the rear notch?

Usually you are OK it seems with a vice and the alum. punch Dawson sends with their sights. I was. If you do not want an adjustable I would just replace the front. Call them and they will tell you which. I have messed with mine a bunch on 2 M/Ps. On both I ended up with what Dawson recommends for their adjustable rear which I like a lot. However you have to have a tall front. They say .305 and I think you need at least a .285. They will look very tall but shoot very nice. I tried the .265 on my standard and bottomed out the rear with 125 gr. bullets and am about 3 or 4 clicks high with 147s so now I have a .295 coming for another 40 bucks.

thanks, I would check it out too.

I found this in other site..

The front post is 0.160".

The rear notch is 0.105" deep X 0.140 wide.

so, the thing is, can I buy a dawson, warren or 10-8 front sight only .160 tall x .115 or .110 width and use it with the factory rear sights.?

the light bar would be .030 for the .110 width... or .040 with .100 or .025 with the .115..

is the .030 - .040 a good combination for light bar? and speed shooting?

thanks

I just now installed my taller front on my full size M/P. Easy peezy but it was about the 6th one I have installed. I got the .100 width with the .040 fiber optic. I think that combo will work fine with your standard rear if you can get the point of aim and point of impact to be the same. I never can so I need an adjustable rear.

I went through the same dilemma. Called S&W twice and finally got the right answer.

Front Sight

Width: 0.130, Height: 0.160 (from slide), 0.230 (total)

Rear Sight

Notch: 0.140, Height: 0.170 (from slide), 0.240

I put my digital caliper on the front sight of my .40 Pro a couple of days ago; the width was .130 but my height measurement came in at .185 from the top of the slide - and there is a gap between the top of the slide and the bottom of the sight (a piece of paper folded in half will slide in easily but three layers will not quite make it).

Yeah mines a 9 fs. I believe the pro has different sights from the factory. Theyre taller and fiber optic.

A folded piece of paper also fits under mine. But not 3...had to check lol
