NoahbodyImportant
I recently purchased a M1 Garand. I have been shooting the CMP HXP Greek Ammo and would like to reload using that brass. 1. What Dillon Dies or Die Set should I get? 2. Do I need a crimping die? Thanks Jeff
sleepercaprice1
Standard full length .30-06 dies should work fine for loading for the M1. Be careful with powder selection. Most people use powders in the 4895 and 4064 range. Powders that are too slow can damage the operating rod.
NoahbodyImportant
Thank you I plan on using Varget or 4064.
retarmyaviator
The current Hornady reloading manual has a section strictly for the Garand.
Jeff F
I use either 4895 or 4064. I get batter results with 4064 your results may vary
ziebart
4064 is a good choice, but if you get a adjustable gas plug you can use a much wider range of powders. For dies I use Lee, I think crimping is optional if you have enough neck tension. Make a round with no powder or primer then try pushing the bullet into the case. I couldn't get it to go, and I seem to think mil spec was 35lbs but I don't have anything to back that up.
Mike Morcillo
My Garand with HXP shot 3" groups. Got the HXP brass, reloaded them with 48gr of 4064, Sierra 150 Mk & Shot a clover leaf group. I thnk I'll try 46-47 to save the brass. Used a Lee factory crimp die, too. Worked for me. Don't rely on my numbers, start low and work up. Good luck.
