jaypap
I bought a used XL 650 with four older powder measures. Can they be upgraded to the fail safe style? Any help would be appreciated.
Pat Miles
By fail safe you mean the latest version as shown on the Dillon website? I don't believe that they can be converted, you'll have to buy the newer models. There are probably a lot of folks who will trade you a new one for an old one as the older models are preferred by most folks. Pat
jaypap
Pat, what is the advantage of the old one?
Sc0
Smoother, resulting in more accurate throws.... The newer fail safe system adds some clunkiness for the sake of always working properly or being fail safe. (I tried to convert my newer measure to the old style by removing the fail safe rod and using springs to retract the powder bar. The result was 50rds of .223 that never received powder due to the transfer lever coming out of the powder bar and me not catching it until later, so I went back to using the fail safe rod.) This was on a XL650 so had plenty of things to do/watch for other than the powder measure...
dillon
On the 650, no problem converting the older measures. You need the current lock-link bellcrank, and the current failsafe rod. Easy to do
