jswitt99
I just picked up a slightly used 550b that is set up for 9mm. I need to convert to 40. I read Brian's different options (quick change, cross over conversion etc) but I don't know exactly what I need. I would like to get the quick change set, but really can't spend $200+. So what do I need to buy to convert to 40 and have it be minimal. This is my first press, so I don't mind changing calibers and having to calibrate. I figure this will be a good to learn the set up. I feel like a kid at Christmas....
Too_Slow
You will need a 'W' powder funnel, a set of three '#2' locator buttons, and a set of dies in 40 S&W. All of these are available on BE's website. The powder funnel runs $15.00 or so and the locator buttons are $1.28 each. rfwobbly
The above fan mail assumes you are not keeping 9mm. If you do intend to keep up with 9mm in addition to the 40, then I highly suggest a 550 "toolhead" so that each set of dies is permanently held in their pre-adjusted positions. TonyT
The beauty of the 550 is that the same shellplate functions for 9mm, 38 Super and 40 S&W with the 40 S&W requiring a different set of brass buttons.
