DoubleBarrel
I thought i read somewhere that the mag tube on the 870 express would not accept an extension. Is this true? How are you guys configuring for heavy metal? thanks
Bryan 45
The 870 tube has dimples that function to keep the magazine spring retainer in place. The extension will install on the 870 without issue, but the follower will not pass these dimples. (Take off the magazine cap and barrel and you can see the dimples.) There are a few ways to remove the dimples. I used a dremel tool and ground them out from the inside. Follow up with some fine sand paper to smooth it out. bkoenig
I just drilled the dimples on mine out with a drill press, then used a round file to smooth out the inside. Edited February 8, 2011 by bkoenig
spd522
I have drilled the dimple out and used a dremel on the inside. Both methods work. The drilling is quicker. Craig
DoubleBarrel
do you cover the resulting holes with anything to keep dirt and debris out? thanks to all for the advice.
spd522
do you cover the resulting holes with anything to keep dirt and debris out? thanks to all for the advice. I cold blue the hole. I haven't had any problem with leaving the hole open. It's covered by the barrel ring so it's not exposed anyway. Craig
Red_SC
I found a socket that fit the tube snugly and then drove it in to iron out the dimples, and then smoothed it up with fine sandpaper. It worked for me.
