LOCAL: Multi-Gun at Rio Salado - February 12th

Recommended Posts

A multigun match will be held at Rio Salado Sportsmans Club, Mesa AZ, on the second Saturday this month. Registration opens at 8am. New shooters should come in time to attend the New Shooter Orientation at 8:30am before they shoot. We run this match under these IMA rules. Check out this video from our last match. Our regular match format is 1 long-range rifle stage (typically reactive targets at 100-350 yards) and 3 short-range rifle/shotgun stages. We usually try to include a small amount of pistol too so folks can practice their transitions, but this is always optional. Bring 150 rounds of rifle ammo, 50 birdshot and a few boxes of shotgun slugs.

This month we will again have a buckshot option on one stage - if you are interested, bring at least 5 rounds of 00 buckshot (#3 buckshot OK for 20ga). Also, we plan to have some interesting new targets on long-range rifle... you won't want to miss them. ;)

New long range targets? Testing for SMM? Tell us more!!

Yes, new reactive targets being tested in advance of SMM3G. It's only a 12 hour drive... come on down and shoot them for yourself :roflol:

can't make it till SMM...give us a hint!!

This month's long range stage will feature these targets, courtesy of the AZNG. They work well with everything we tried, from .22LR to .308Win :D

Do you have to hit those things multiple times? If so, is it the same amount of times for everyone?

The required hits are totally programmable. In this case, the stage was called "Zombie Apocalypse"; targets popped up and down in a fixed sequence for programmed exposure durations, and required 6 cumulative hits to "kill". You can just see them in the distance in this YouTube video if you view in 720p full screen.

Interesting--that guy in the video looks like he is taking less than 6 shots for a few of those targets yet they fall. Either they are going down with fewer shots or he is running out of time. I would think that 2 or 3 shots would be a good number.

The same 3 targets appeared and disappeared repeatedly for fixed time exposures until neutralized by a cumulative total of 6 hits each. Sometimes the target fell because it timed out rather than because it was hit. Lets just say, a lot of lead went down range but (difficult as it is to believe) not every shot hit the target :roflol:
