Waltermitty Posted October 12, 2010 Share Posted October 12, 2010 Probably an old style lift with flip up pads and moveable and extendable arms. Very difficult to set up right with high bias vehicles ( like nose heavy trucks ) . Set up too far back on the center of gravity and a vehicle could be balanced on three, or two tip up pads. Then any change in balance, like removing heavy components, or somebody hanging on a bumper to chat, and the whole thing starts moving. Then... Dave Gundry Posted October 14, 2010 Share Posted October 14, 2010 They are usually very safe - but the inground hoist's like that are a definite PITA to set correctly, especially when billy bob needs nerf bars and lifts the truck. Those hoists have a nasty habit of rotating slightly when they get a few inches up, so in the foot and half that one had to go before it contacted the truck, the feet that you position on the frame were probably just barely catching on it.
