Mat Price
ok I never loaded .223 before I am using siera 52 gr hpbt and varget powder cause i have it for my .308 loads. sierra says starting load is 25.1 gr of varget for a 52 grn hpbt/ it fills the case to the neck is this right? or is my scale jacked up? its for my r-15 vrt and ps 28 gr of varget wont fit in the case (lyman manual max laod)
DyNo!
I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure you can't get enough Varget into a .223 to hurt yourself.
warpspeed
depending on the brass, it will be right up to the neck @ 25~ grains.
Religious Shooter
Varget is notorious for that. Their max loading doesn't fit in a lot of .223 cases when it's normally dispened. IMHO Varget is one of the worst powders to use for 55's and below.
Mat Price
thanks guys! I am going to use the varget to load my 55 gr v max and go hunt up some bench mark or tac for my 52 hpbt. Just wondering I LOVE varget on 168 grn hpbt .308 loads though!
el pres
Varget is awsome, I load 25.5 squeezed under a 69gr. However it sucks for anything under a 62gr, infact so does TAC. 55gr and under is best with H335, W748, or Exterminator ...
