NewColonial
USPSA: 9.2.2 “Comstock” – Unlimited time stops on the last shot, unlimited number of shots to be fired, stipulated number of hits per target to count for score. I understand that to mean if stage calls for 2 shots, make up shots are okay, and best 2 are scored. Simple enough. But today I was looking at the stages for the Indiana 2010 Section at http://www.uspsaindiana.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=64 and there would seem to be a contradiction. For example, stage 1: SCORING: Comstock, 32 rounds, 160 points TARGETS: 14 IPSC, 4 PP SCORED HITS: Best 2 per IPSC START-STOP: Audible - Last shot PENALTIES: Procedural. -10 No-shoot hit. -10 Extra shot. -10 Extra hit. -10 Miss. -10 Other stages have similar descriptions. If it's Comstock scoring, how are the penalties for extra shots and extra hits determined? Please un-confuse this BEginner. Thanks.
sperman
Just a typo. There are no extra shot or extra hit penalties on a comstock stage. They probably use the same generic scoring block for all stages.
Corey
i dont think ive ever seen a scoring area not say that, comstock or not. I think its one of those "if applicable" scoring things. if its a comstock stage, thats what you need to know.
NewColonial
Okay, got it. Maybe being extra sensitive due to recent events. I shot an IDPA match last week and I was told "Minimum two shots per target. Makeup shots okay." There were seven strings, all moving different directions, with weak/strong hand strings too, shots on three targets. Turns out they were scoring the three targets AFTER all seven strings were shot. So there was really no way to know if the hits were from the easy or hard strings. RO was like "I guess we'll give you the benefit of the doubt." I didn't put it all together until after I had shot. I don't see the holes on paper well, but I made up shots when I called them misses (to the best of my ability to call shots.) In retrospect I should have realized it, so I accept responsibility for mucking it up. He was nice about it, but I left with a bad feeling. But thanks for the responses on these USPSA stages. Got it. :-)
Pat Miles
Just generic verbiage left in the WSB. Should have been caught and deleted. CYa, Pat
sperman
Comstock stages with multiple strings are bad stage design, IMO. Especially if they require strong hand and weak hand strings.
BradGannaway
That would have thrown me through a loop too. When in doubt, make the RO explain, and re-explain the stage; that's part of their job. BSG
