Anyone try this for your 38 super V8 or V12

Not that I know of. I have 4 lbs and never tried it because I was so happy with 7625. If you try it let us know what you think please.

Well I tried the 7625 and got a lot of muzzle rise. I was using autocomp prior to that and it was much flatter.I was going to try a little slower powder, maybe the 4756 or true blue

I don't use it personally because it supposedly can produce a pretty big flash every now and then. Obviously not a good thing for indoor shooting but personally I have only tried it outdoors without any noticable flashing (that is +- 50 rounds). 9,6 gr 3n38 behind a Berry's 124 gr RN made PF 165,5 in my V8.

Looking for more Gas - N105, AA#7. While the realtionship isn't perfect the more powder it takes to make 170pf the more gas is produced. Throw 10.5gr of AA#7 behind a 125gr bullet and you got lots of gas @175pf. Step down to a 121gr more powder more gas. 3N38 produces less gas than N105. Silhouette seems to shoot well. Reply based on 38Super. I tried 4756, 7625, and HS6 in my V8, I couldn't tell them apart, ran TruBlue for a while at 8.3gr and it shot just like N350 @ 8.0. Henning likes 7.3gr of IMR7625 at 174-175pf. Have you replaced your recoil spring lately? If your recoil spring is tired and worn out nothing works well. If your comp isn't slowing the slide down enough try a little more spring, a little more flip at the start but less at the end of the cycle plus less recoil.

IMR7625 produces a nice flame about every four shots, I worked the cave at double tap, lots of flames.

The best smelling powder for an open gun is Blue Dot, if only shot better.

Dyroe, How did it shoot? What do you normally shoot?

I normally shoot N-105 (9,6 gr)

Honestly, I can't tell the difference between the two. On the other side, I'm not particularly good at noticing differences...

any issues with shooting Berry plated bullets at around 1400 fps?

Yes! A lot of lead build up in the comp!

A couple of weeks ago somone told me this was due to the bullet's thin copper jacket. Do you know of any other issues related to Berry's?

I load VV3N38 for my wife's V8; however, she shoots minor PF (130 - 131 PF):

  • 6.5gr 3N38
  • 1.110" with 124gr plated round nose
  • CCI 500
  • mixed brass

You may want to use a 6 lbs recoil spring with this load.

She really likes it for Steel and IPSC Minor.

:)
