D.Hayden
before I start counting, any rule of thumb how many cases = 1 pound, or how much 1K or xx weighs? I'm looking for 9MM, 40, 45, 38SPL - just approx - trying to determine if buying by the bucket for xx dollars locally for '1 to many times' fired makes sense, or just buy from brassman.com, etc.. Thanks.....
kevin c
Varies by brand (mebbe +/- 5%), but, FWIW: 9 mm is about 9.25#/K 40 SW is about 10#/K 45 ACP is about 13.25#/K (I don't shoot 38 spl) This is once fired (spent primer in). Don't forget the wt. of packaging all that metal (30 to 40# for 12"x12"x12" box). Search in the reloading forum for comments on different online shippers' service and product. warpspeed
I use a digital shipping scale and the following is my experience: 40 S&W and 38 super is the same - 10 # / K 9mm = 8.8 # / K This is for fired brass w/ the primer. I say this becaue you would be surprised how much 1K primers weigh.
kevin c
I use spent primers in my sandbags for bench shooting. Berkim: If you go in with enough buddies with a big enough order, the brassman will cut your shipping costs to the UPS 200# discount rate (at least he did for me). If you don't mind getting personal stuff at work, I think you can also save on the home/residence surcharge that is tacked on by some shippers. Of course, then ya gotta lug all that brass home.
