NewColonial
I recently purchased the new Sig P226 E2. Very happy with the gun, but I've also gotten interested in IDPA. I've only gotten to shoot a classifier so far (and with the new Sig.) I've now develped some concerns about the gun in IDPA matches. Folks tell me it's just another variant of the good ol' P226. But other folks say it may be okay in local matches, but may or may not be allowed in sanctioned matches, mainly questions about production quantity. (Again, counting all P226 or P226 E2 numbers?) I wrote the IDPA HQ folks, but got no reply. Anyone have any ideas? Trying to figure this out before I devote time to something I can't bring my gun too. :-) Thanks for any knowledgeable advice. Jim Watson
I wouldn't worry about it. The only difference is the grip and the trigger (which is available on other variants.) Looks like a P226 to me and nobody is going to be checking how many E2s have been made.
Steve Koski
IDPA has been consistent in counting all variants of a particular gun as the same model when it comes to the 2,000 production quota necessary for SSP. So, like Jim said, you're almost certainly fine in SSP. However, if it happened to be a brand new gun (which it's not) with low production numbers, you could still compete with it in ESP. NewColonial
Thanks guys. I'm really excited to try out IDPA as soon as time allows. Missed a match tonight and will miss one Saturday due to other demands on my time, but soon. Maybe next week!!
