TR-24, Dot or Triangle

just got my TR24G in.

I imagine using the triangle to holdover targets @ 400 will take some practice...but accomplishable.

a couple persons in the below thread talk about using the bottom of the tr24 triangle for a 300 yard target if you are zeroed for 100 yards. and using the bottom of the triangle for a 350 yard target if you are zeroed at ~ 200 yards.

http://www.brianenos...34#entry1196169

at 4x the top of the triangle to the bottom is 4.1 MOA @ 400 yards.Assuming the rear rim on this mustang is 18 inches, it should be ~375 yards away.

when i zero the AR @ 200 yards, i suppose I would place the bottom of the triangle half way (heightwise) on the rim if i were trying to shoot at it.

That sounds ok-really depends on the bullet. Vmax60gr by Atlanta Arms is really snappy tappy and I would start the tip of triangle on the top of the rim and go from there. For Larues this means aiming at the top with the tip. At myrange we have gongs at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500. I think round whole numbers are easy to figure in your head. But basically you've got it. Nice.

I just realized after some discussion on polls that I used the wrong verbage in this one.

Moderators please change this topic to read which reticle do you use. My intention was to find out which is actually most popular not which people THINK would be best. The discussion following the poll is for opinions in my opinion;)

I have used the amber triangle TR21 in the past, the only drawback is with longer targets there is coverage of the target with the post. The Green TR24 looks promising but I currently use a 1.1-4X S&B Short Dot, it is wonderful and I would not go back to a TR21/24 from it.

costwise, that would be like trading in a 911 for a s2000.

good job though 2011BLDR. I like to see people who are not afraid of spending money on optics.

2 Qs:

So I see a lot of talk that makes good sense for the triangle and estimating hold-over, but what about the dot? I like the small size of the dot, but I like the idea of estimating hold-over with the triangle. What do the dot/crosshair users do for holdover? Educated guessing? spin the turrets?

Also, on the triangle, is the tip still zero'd at both 1x and 4x? Since it appears bigger at 1x, I wouldn't want to have to learn two hold-overs.

I really appreciate the pictures above of the different reticles.

Thanks!

I zero'd at 200 yards @ 4x and when i went to 50 @ 1X, it was dead on.

It's not always about being "afriad". Not everyone is wealthy.
