Imr 4756

Looking through my powder cabinet I see have a good qantity of IMR 4756 from my open pistol .38super days. I'd like to use it up. I was wondering if anyone had a recipe with this powder for .40S&W with a 180gr. JHP bullet (Zero). I checked IMR's web site and they list one load of 6.0gr. for a velocity of 1000fps. This is a little stiff as I'm looking for a IPSC limited load and don't need a 180pf.

Thanks,

Nick-

I can see from all the responses, this is obviously a popular powder for .40S&W :D

I did some checking and Steve's reloading pages show you can start a 180gr. bullet with IMR 4756 at 5.1gr. I will try this and see what we get. When I was shooting open pistols, this was a real clean buring powder and we were shooting compressed loads back then to make major. I'll let you know how this powder does in .40.

Nick,

The loads you gave me for the 38 super have worked great - I have almost used up my first 5# keg and may be interested in buying the powder off you if you want to get rid of it - contact me if interested.
