  1. I have a perfect 10 from STI that I shoot 10mm out of. I use a 22 pound spring in it. Still throws the brass 30 ft. I am shooting a 155 at 1400 out of it. Fwiw
  2. sent a scope to C-More 2 weeks ago. The click switch would work only on the highest setting. I told them when I sent it that it was 5-6 years old easily. Fully expected to pay for the repair. Got it back today with a new switch installed at no charge. Nice to be treated so well by one of our companies
  3. I have had 3 - shoot 4-5 thousand rifle rounds a year. I have used the Wilson trimmer with the Sinclair ad on, a Gracey Match prep trimmer and a RCBS power trimmer with the head that also deburrs and chamfers. The gracey match prep will also debur and chamfer as it trims. I now use only the RCBS power trimmer - I feel it gives the most consistant results and is very easy to adjust. The Gracey is the fastest, but tricky to get adjusted correctly.
  4. Same experience with SR4756 - 9.0 under a 124 JHP. Burns clean. Been using it for years.
  5. I mounted 12 x 12 inch mirrored tiles available at Lowe's or Home Depot above the case feeders on my 650's so that I can simply look up and see what is left in the case feeder hopper. I don't have to stand up from my comfy chair while reloading to see when I need to throw more cases in.
  6. This is an update on the Louisiana Gator Classic match to be held on September 2,3,4/2005 in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. 7. The sponsor list is up to 17 sponsors now. We should have a great prize table and a great match.
  8. I shot the LASC 2004 today - 8 stages, good stage designs - high round counts, challenging, imaginative - well run and organized match, at a good facilty getting better in Thibodaux Louisiana. Thanks to Neil, Doc, Jim, Lloyd, Robert, the host of others and the RO's for the hard work and hospitality. I shot well for a blind man. Perhaps not so good for someone who can see, but it's been a while. I am looking forward to the one next year.
  9. Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these pink dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?" Who was the first person to say, "See that chicken there... I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes outta its ass." Why do toasters always have a setting so high that could burn the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer? Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their ass when they ask where the bathroom is? Why does your gynecologist leave the room when you get undressed if they are going to look up there anyway? Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs! If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests? If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from? If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons? Is Disney World the only people trap operated by a mouse? Why do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune? Stop singing and read on . . . . . Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup? Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's on the outside of your ass? Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him on a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?
  10. A couple of weeks ago I received a .40 Brazos Limited gun from Bob. 2 friends and I were practicing at a range we have set up in Mississippi. I try to make it up here every weekend to practice and goof off. We have a rifle range and a pistol range carved out of the deep woods. We take our dogs and my son with us when we go. In 4 of the last 5 weekends, while working out on the rifle range setting up stages, etc., I have literally nearly stepped on a snake. I am bending over, setting a popper, look up, there's a snake. I move a tarp, there's a snake, etc. So far, 1 corn snake, 2 king snakes, 1 grass snake. Snakes creep me out. This always generates a very high pitched yelp, the source of considerale amusement to my friends. I walk around here very carefully now. It's about 2:30 Sunday afternoon, we are packing up, after we have put over 1000 rounds on 2 plate racks we have set up on the pistol range. One of my friends is walking around the rear of the backstop looking for the kingsnake I nearly stepped on last week, when he freezes and yells for me to get a gun. I looked at him and knew immediately that it was not a kingsnake he was yelling about. I ran to the bench and got my new Brazos. Of course, by this point in the day, I have shot all my ammo. I run to the car because I remembered that I picked up the ammo bag of my older friend that morning and he must have had 3000 rounds in the darn thing. Bingo, .40 loaded ammo. I shoveled 10 into a mag and ran back to the backstop. My friend was there watching the leaves intently. He points to the leaves on the ground behind the backstop. I look and eventually see a timber rattler 4 feet long and as big around as my calf, perfectly camouflaged in the leaves. I would have definitely stepped on this rascal, had I just been walking thru. He must have been sitting there, 30 feet from us the whole day, while we were shooting. My preferred tool for this work is a cool beverage while I watch from 50 feet away while someone else uses a 12 gauge. However, I rise to the occasion and take careful aim at the center of the snake and shoot him, trying to break his back. I see the hits. He slithers off 6 feet under a old steel door leaning against the back stop. I run and reload (full mag this time) and run back. I take careful aim and shoot him again. He is pissed off now and raises the top 1/3 of his body in the classic S. I shoot him thru the neck and he drops. I shoot him until I am out of ammo again. I run and reload again. I run back to the backstop. My friend makes me stop shooting the snake, assuring me that he is dead. There are at least 15 hits on the snake. He is nearly cut in half. Moral of the story: none. However, seems to me there must be a area match level stage design buried here. BTW, I leave the other snakes to their eco-niche. Cottonmouths and rattlers must die, just cause they are creepy.

  12. To: Erik Warren and AZGunner, I agree that a little case lube inside the case is a good thing. Also take the powder funnel out and highly polish it. This makes a huge difference. I chuck a bore brush in a drill, stuff it into the powder funnel and spin the powder funnel in some fine steel wool. I then take some polishing compnound on a towel and spin it in that. Works like a charm.
  13. 1) St Benard Indoor Shooting center - IPSC match first sunday of each month, plate matches each Friday night. 2) Nicks is good - owner is very laid back, lots of ipsc shooters there, has Sunday and Thursday night matches - steel, ppc, IPSC. Membership is inexpensive, open 7 days. 3) Honey Island Swamp has a very nice range open to the public every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Manned by range officers. $6 to shoot all day, no membership necessary. 45 minutes from town. Web site has a map. Shooting line is covered. 25 and 100 yard ranges. http://www.honeyisland.org/
  14. Glocks have polygonal rifling. You aren't supposed to shoot lead as it may cause rapid leading of the barrel due to the way the barrel is rifled. Some people still do and get away with it. You will not be able to make major with this gun. .40 caliber is the minimum bullet diameter that you can use for major. If your friend is going to shoot production, then it does not matter, as all guns are scored minor. Also, he will be able to download the ammo as long as it still makes minor (feet per second times bullet weight/1000 = at least 125). This will negate some of the recoil. .357 Sig is a .355 9mm bullet. Sig named it .357 to compete with the .357 magnum. There are several manufactors who make bullets specifically for the .357 sig that have long sides. Case neck tension is an issue when reloading these as there is only about 1/8 inch of case neck. Bullet setback when feeding can be an issue. Look for the M.D. Anderson page for reloading data. Search on google using ".357 sig reload" and you will find some data.
  15. I opened a new thread on this as it is really a new topic and thanks to Shooter Grrl, it now has pictures. My last thread on the STI Custom shop was just whining about having to wait. I'm good at whining, bad at waiting. Got the gun last Friday. Hooray!! I ordered it on 02/06/2004 and received it on 05/14/2004. Not really that bad - longer than promised, but not forever. Just seems like forever when you are waiting. It's a STInger with a T2 comp - one more port than the standard gun and a bomar cut to lighten the slide. I also had STI put the V6 port cuts in the slide in case I want to add the ports later. Attractive, balances well, is a little shorter than the Brazos ProSX or the Dawson Minigun. The PRO SX is actually a little lighter even through it's longer. Didn't check the Minigun weight Came with a 4 pound trigger. Never shot it with that. Knew it would come that way, so I had ordered a hammer/sear/springs group from Brazos. That went 1.5 pounds out of the package with a crisp, clean break - perfect. Did not have to muck with it at all. Bob Londrigan is THE trigger guru as far as I am concerned. Gun chronoes exactly the same as the Minigun and the PRO SX. I chronoed 10.5 grs VV N105 at 1.235 oal at 80 degrees with a Montana Gold 124 JHP and got 1376 fps out of the ProSX and 1375 out of the STInger. The STInger has less barrell but the PROsx is ported. Seems to trade off. I put 300 rounds of major through it on Sunday. First impression was that it does not have the face blast that the ported guns have and that it seems to shoot at least as soft. Handles well. Is not quite as accurate as a Brazos or Dawson, but is certianly more than adequate. I can shoot sub inch groups with the other guns at 25 yards from a rest - this one spreads just a little more than that. I will work with different loads to see if I can tighten that up. When you are shooting stages, you don't notice the face blast. I got the STI custom shop serrations - the saber cuts. This is now my favorite rear serrations on any gun I own. They are cool looking and very aggressive - necessary on a gun with a scope. There are some tool marks inside the slide and on the front of the slide where the breechface is cut - not functional issues, but not perfection either. I ordered it with a supercomp Aftec, but the gun came with an Aftec 38 super extractor. Good thing STI was shut at 2pm on Friday cause I wasn't happy about that. I had a chance to calm down this weekend, I shot it and am satisfied with how it came out and STI will make it right, so it's not a permanent issue. Overall, I rate it a good value, accurate, flat/soft shooting and fun.
  16. Got the gun, happy with it, details and gun porn in "STI Super STInger"
  17. I am posting this as I have not seen load workups for 38 supercomp using Hornady 38TJ brass in a short open gun. I started the process because I was concerned about pressure issues in this case because of the decreased volume due to the large extractor groove. I just went to this brass. I loaded IMR 4756 at 8.8 grains in new Hornady 38TJ supercomp brass at 1.240 with Winchester small rifle primers. It produced 1355 fps, a 168 PF with Montana golds 124.4 JHP through my Brazos Pro Sx when chronographed at 80 degrees. From a rest, I was able to shoot a 5 shot dime size group at 25 yards with this. I am pleased with the load and the gun. Bob does great work. I also loaded 10.5 grs of VV N105 in the same brass at 1.250 to make 170 PF. I actually think this shoots a little flatter and does not hit you in the hand as hard, but in the 38TJ brass, it's a pain to load due to the volume and I have slight issues with consistent powder drops on the N105 - I believe it's the extruded powder shape - I get .1 grs variance. Also a good load, but I found it not to be quite as accurate (by a hair). I also loaded 9.8 grs of VV 3N38 in the same brass at 1.240 to make 170 PF. The 3N38 meters extremely well and does not fill the case as much as the other powders above. However, compared to the others above, it hits your hand hard. I really disliked it. I did not test it for accuracy since I had no desire to shoot it on a regular basis after testing the others above. For what it's worth, there were no significant pressure signs with the loads above.
  18. After being beaten by 3/10 of second on a stage by a guy with 29 rounds in his mag when I had to reload due to 27, I decided to go supercomp, tune the mags and do what was necessary to get 29. My competitor rubbed it in. Anyone who shoots open will understand this fixation. When our equipment is challenged, we can not let it stand. It is a point of honor (obsession). I bought brass, aftec extractors, a shell plate, worked up loads, ad nausem. I bought the new grams 13 coil spring with the new follower and 2.5 mm base pads and reassembled my mags. Imagine my disgust when I went to load the mag and got 28 rounds into it. I emailed Beven Grams about this and he replied in minutes with his phone number and to call him about it. So I did. You need the 4mm base pad to make this happen and you might exceed the 171.25 mm rule. Measure it and if it fails, send it to Beven who will tune the body to get it legal (for a fee, only fair). Beven volunteered to swap out the 2.5 base pads for the 4 mm I need. He was extraordinarily gracious about the whole thing and a pleasure to talk to. I am writing to put him on the pedestal that I have reserved for the many customer oriented vendors that I have met on this quest and in the gun community. Great guy.
  19. "Is it still going to be a trubor barrel? " Yes
  20. Continuing open gun saga. rant mode on// STI told me it would be ready in two weeks, no problem, three weeks ago. I called Monday and was told it would be back from chrome Thursday. I called today and was told it would be back Friday or Monday. If that is true, I will get it on Tuesday. It's basically a Stinger with a bigger comp and the slide lightened. It's not like I asked them to build Apollo 13. Just irritated. I don't like waiting and it makes it worse when delivery estimates are made and blown again and again. You would think that they would build a fudge factor into the estimates. You're happy when something is delivered earlier than promised, everyone gets mad when it works the other way. I have never had a gun builder meet a delivery promise. Never. They frequently blow the estimates by months. If I worked like that, I would be living in a cardboard box. Jeez. Feel free to move this to the "What I hate" section. It's starting to give me an irritable colon: rant mode off //
  21. We expect people to be quiet when golfers putt so they will not be distracted, but it's alright to make as much noise as you want when a highly adrenalinized, middle aged, overweight guy is about to start running with a loaded gun. Anybody else see issues with that? Let the shooter focus on the task at hand. When I RO, it's quiet when my shooters start. It's the fair thing. Everyone should have the opportunity to shoot the stage the same way.
  22. I have a local group that buys bullets in bulk. We will order over 100,000 at a time. We get a price break and the bullet guy delivers them to us in New Orleans from Tennessee. You might do better that way so there is a single delivery point. MG or Zero or who ever could send them in via truck. Shipping is the issue with bullets.
  23. There is a Best Western less than a mile away from the Microtel. My understanding is that the RO's shoot Thursday and everyone else starts shooting Friday morning. The number for the Best Western is 318-742-6000. I am coming up with a group from New Orleans and we are staying there.
  24. What Rhino described is what happens to me. I changed the position of my press and wear a elbow brace while reloading and that has helped.
  25. Thread drift alert: I also used to get some sideways primers on my 650 and crush them into the pocket. The problem has almost entirely gone away once I moved my press to a more rigid mount that allowed no press movement during operation.
