pjb45
I am negotiating a job offer in Jefferson City. I know nothing about this part of the country. Is there a USPSA Club nearby? Their website seems to be down. Would it be better to live in Columbia or JC? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks paul

DWFAN
I went to college in Columbia in 2002-2005. Pretty good town with things to offer people of all ages. You'll have traffic and other issues for bigger sporting events (mainly college football), and other college related events. Add that to the difference in population during and outside of the school year. I didnt spend to much time in Jeff city, but its growing so I probably wouldnt recognize it anyways. Ashland is between the two, and would offer a more rual living, but still be close to both cities. I would think Columbia would offer more to live in, but would be a drive to Jefferson City every day to work. There is a nice indoor range I shot at (target masters on Rangeline north of i-70), and also Columbia is home to the Bianchi cup. So that club is an option also. http://gvshoot.com/doku.php

Thanks paul Jeff City is a company town, with the company being the state government. If you're involved or interested in state government, JC is a whirlwind of activity from January through May, with the occasional special session or veto session for excitement. Other than that, its a typical small-medium sized town, maybe a little on the slow side as far as nightlife goes. Columbia is a classic college town with all that comes with that. On the plus side, there's live music, a night scene, lots of art, any movie you'd ever want to see, a wide variety of restaurants, etc., etc., etc. As you might suspect, JC is pretty conservative politically and socially, whereas Columbia leans far to the left. I've spent a lot of time in both towns, and I'd personally look for for something in one of the smaller towns in between. On the weekends, you'll want to go to Columbia, but during the week, there's a lot to be said for peace and quiet. Its a 40-45 minute drive from one Columbia to JC, and that's a lot of commute in my opinion. One nice thing about both towns is that there is a lot of rental property. Like the University, state government attracts a relatively transient population, so you can probably find a decent place to live in either town for 6 month or a year before you have to commit longer term to one or the other. Front Man
I think Jeff City is beautiful and would be my pick. The closer you live to work, the more money you'll save. Is the range that held A-3 about 15 years ago still open? That would make or break the deal with me. FM
duncan
United Sportsmans Club. I think is the name of it. They hold shoots twice amonth. One on a Sat. And one small one during the week after 5:30 I believe. Try the USPSA web sight and check on it. I shoot there whenever I can, and have friends that shoot there. Rolla also has one along with Columbia and Higginsville (my home club )
Front Man
That's all I need to know; I would pick Jeff City if that's where I worked! Enough shooting, a place to train and trade the expense of commuting for reloading components!
BillyGlock
There is alot of shooting sports clubs in the mid-Missouri area... between Jeff City and Columbia for lower cost of living, lower crime etc..., I'd lean towards Jeff City area Jeff City USC http://www.unitedsportsmenjeffcitymo.org/ http://www.unitedsportsmenjeffcitymo.org/data/pistol.htm Columbia Green Valley (Chapman Academy where IPSC & IDPA started...) http://gvshoot.com/doku.php Rolla COPS http://www.copsrange.org/ Fayette CMMG http://www.fireforeffect.biz/ http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/?shop=1 DVC BillyGlock
pjb45
Thanks for all the information. We are in the final stages of negotiations, so depending on how that turns out, I may be shooting in MO this year.
