  1. A brief report after today's 1st. session with my friend and his new Shadow:

    - with HIS rounds (TC bullet, OAL = 1.122" (28,50 mm.) --> bang, bang, JAM,bang,JAM,JAM,bang,JAM.... ;-((

    - with MY rounds (RN bullet, OAL = 1.161" (29,50 mm.) --> BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG ... ;-))

Another (probable) issue we have noticed is that is seems the barrel's chamber is VERY precise:

if the rounds are less than perfect ... they don't want to feed !

My friend has reloaded his TC rounds with an XL 650, and I've noticed that the jammed rounds were with a little bumped circle just over the rim of the case ...

My RN rounds were better sized (I reload with a Super 1050) and even if longer they feeded without problems.

At this point I'm a little bit confused about the importance of loading "short" for the Shadow ...

  2. Stefano,

The CZ has a very tight short chamber and the rifling starts much closer to the chamber. They call it a competition barrel I guess :)

I find that 115's and 124's feel and shoot the best, but that is personal.

    As far as length...

The 147's can bump the slide stop, so most of us grind down the slide stop bump just a bit to clear the bullets.

I load my Zero's round noses and Montana Gold's JHP to 1.125, but FP to 1.10. I have shot 115's as long as 1.165 in it without a problem.

What ever bullet he chooses, load it long, dont crimp much , put it in the chamber till you touch the rifling and then back off a bit.

    Thanks Shay,

it's the same input I've had from an european guy (CZ sponsorized shooter ...) on Global Village forum:

the Shadow don't like so much heavy bullets due to his short-chamber ....

The secondary issue (for italian shooters) is that we cannot shoot 9x19 (wich is considerd for "law-enforcment-only") but only 9x21, and so we must arrange for this particular cartridge any tips about OAL that you guys are suggesting to me ...

    Anyway, thanks so much !!

    Stefano

  3. A club-mate of my has recently bought the ultimate Shadow version of the estimated CZ-SP01, and he's serching for a few reloading tips .....

I was told that the Shadow doesn't like RN bullets, in particular heavy ones (up to 145/147grs ....) but serching in the forum I've found a bunch of guys who are happy with this kind of loads ... ;)

As I see the only tip is to load "short" (if I'm not wrong almost 1.100" ...).

Is really an issue the bullet profile with the Shadow ??

Unfortunately I can't give to him any kind of personal advice, because I shoot (any kind of bullet) with a Tanfoglio Stock 2 ....

    Thanks !

    Stefano

  4. Never seen yet, but I've talked a lot about it with Eric Grauffel (who 's selling it on his website ...).

It seems "the ultimate" bullet feeder but it's very much expensive: the reason why is because you have almost to replace ALL the upper-part of the 1050 with the new stuff .....

Eric says that there's a huge difference between the GSI and the KISS bullet feeder (and the price says too ....).

  5. Anybody uses it and can share his own experience with it ?

I would like to get it from Mental Management System, but the infos on their website are quite general, nothing specific about practical shooting ...

I have no doubt that this could be a great tool, but I'm jus curious about how it works and how to update it .

    Thanks

  6. I think that a good habit for any kind of shooter (from the lower "D" to the Top GM) is to reinforce fundamentals during training.

About me the main areas to cover are:

    - draw

    - accuracy

    - target acquisition

    - exiting/entering positions

    - reload

    - mental game

Do you agree with this list or there is something that I've forgot ?

What are your favourite drills for each area ?

  7. I always clean and check ALL my brasses, before reloading.

This is absolutely the only thing I hate about shooting but ... I'm happy of the results I've gained with this activity and - in my opinion - it has always payed me off.

I don't care about headstamp sorting for those that I use for training, but during the check I take apart all those of a particular brand (S&B) that I use for matches.

I like to use in competition only brasses with the same headstamp.

Shooting Production (minor) I've found PF differences of 3/4 poins between one brand ant the other, so I want to be sure that my "match-ammo" is the most possible constant .... ;)

  8. Julien/Stefano,

Do you really think stuffing the mag into the gun, then putting the mag in the pouch and racking the slide is faster?

I thought that would be the slowest option, because you have to:

Grab a magazine and go to the gun, go back to the table, go to the belt, go back to the gun, shoot.

I would think that grabbing a magazine, stuffing it on the belt and grabbing the second one (that goes in the gun) will get you moving earlier.

Luca's option, grabbing both mags and stuffing the first one on the belt seems even faster. But it will also depend on the distance to the table, methinks? If the table is close to the first shooting position there's no need to get moving fast...

Well... all depends to YOUR skill/ability:

Luca's solution is good but ... are you able to work on it consistently ?

If something goes wrong with your double-grip on the two mags ??

Isn't possible to say "what's the best": only you can find "what's the best FOR YOU" and the only key is to find the answer in training: you try all the solutions, and then you'll find what works better FOR YOU ! ;)

  9. ...........

If the table is only a start position :

    - Grab the pistol and put the mag inside.

    - Grab another mag and put it in your pouch.

    - Rack the slide while moving.

The third solution is what I choosed to do at the Jungle in Cheval Blanc at the EHC2007.

Put one mag in the pistol, grab another one and stuff in my pouch, then racked the slide while mounting on the bridge.

    100% agree !

This last solution is fast (and safe) and also IMHO is the better !

  10. Having the opportunity of being at the range 3/4 (and more) times every week is a unique privilege:

    USE IT !!

You can (much more better) have your daily dry-fire session at the range, instead of at home !

But remember: it's not the quantity but the quality !

Practice makes consistent, not (always) perfect: if you train poorly you'll have a poor result at the matches.

In your training-plan dry fire is very important !!

Don't concentrate only on live-fire: you can always start any live-fire session at the range with a brief time of dry-fire exercises, forcing your attention not to the "time" but to your body coordination and the quality of your tecnique.

After 20/30 minutes of "dry-fire warm-up" you are in the BEST condition to start your live-fire session, repeating live-fire what you've just done in dry-fire.

IMHO, dry-fire practice is worth as much as (and propably more) live fire-practice !

  11. Please, I need help to forwarding to a friend of my who is serching a solution for fitting a slide-racker on a STI Trubore in 9mm; due to the fact that on this gun the rear of the slide (where you have to place the slide-racker) is low-profile and there's less material, can anybody suggest a good solution ?

Where I can find a racker that fits for this gun ?

    Thanks in advance.

  12. Have you tried to play other DVDs on your new system?

Did you finalize the DVD in your camera before trying to view it on your computer?

2 - Yes, I know where are those files but ... I am not able to rename them ! I can only change the name of the program for opening the files

Remove the DVD from your computer. Then, replace the DVD in your computer and close the drive. When the box appears (that gives you the choices of programs to open the files) close it. Then go to Start --> Computer --> and locate your DVD drive. Click on it and view the files on the DVD. Locate the file with the .vro extension. Right-click the file and then click Copy. Click on your desktop (anywhere that's blank) and right-click then click Paste. Right-click on the file you "Pasted" on your desktop and click Rename. Rename the file MyMovie.mpg and press Enter. Windows will warn you that changing the file name extension might cause the file to stop working properly. Click Yes to confirm the change.

If that doesn't work... try renaming the file MyMovie.mpeg (but that shouldn't matter).

Let me know how it goes.

    :D

    Sharyn,

sorry for the delay ! I was out of home for work in the past days ....

This evening I'll have a little bit time to try your solution: I'll tell you something ASAP !

    Thanks A LOT !!!

    You're GREAT !

  13. I don't know if it can be called "arousal" but usually I'm "pushed-up" whit my shooting when I'm squadded with shooters who are a lot much better than me.

Having all around me several skilled GMs gives to me a very good feeling:

I'm excited and enthusiast of being in such a good squad, and my shooting is improved by this feeling.

I dont' try to emulate them (I well know that it would be VERY dangerous for me ...) but I enjoy their superb (for me) performances, and this usually works to "pump-up" my attitude to the match ...

The problem is that this works perfectly (with a different result ...) also at the opposite, when I found that' I'm squadded with beginners ...

In this situation it's a real challenge for me shooting at the best of my possibilities ...

  14. Vista probably isn't the problem.

    1) What happens when you insert the disk in the DVD drive? (what errors do you get or does it just do nothing?)

    2) Do you know how to locate the .vro file? If so, copy it to your desktop and rename it with a .mpg extension.

    3) Can you play it on any other DVD devices?

Give me some more information and I'll walk you through a solution.

    :D

1 - Nothing ! Vista opens Windows media centre but the video don't start ! And there' not an error message ...

2 - Yes, I know where are those files but ... I am not able to rename them ! I can only change the name of the program for opening the files

3 - At the moment I haven't any other Dvd player: only the one of my PC ...

  15. What software are you trying to view them with?

Are you just trying to view them, or did you want to edit them?

    From the Canon site:

DVD camcorder movies are primarily designed for direct playback of the recorded discs using either the camcorder connected to the television or by simply removing the finalized DVD disc from the camcorder and placing it into your home DVD player. A computers DVD drive that is compatible with 3 inch Mini-DVD's* combined with DVD playback software installed onto the computer can also play your movies.

For AVCHD high definition DVD camcorders such as the HR10, playback of DVD's recorded in high definition mode may only be played on DVD players that support AVCHD playback (i.e. most Blu-Ray DVD players, Sony Playstation 3, and computers with proper software).

The DVD video format is designed for direct playback rather than uploading to a computer for editing. Various third party software applications are available to assist in uploading your videos to your computer's hard drive for playback, but most video editing software packages do not currently have the ability to edit these files.

If you wish to attempt to edit your DVD movies using your computer we suggest consulting with your software vendor or performing a web search for applications that support DVD camcorder video files.

I can't personally recommend any software because I haven't used any of it... but a quick search turned up a few options like: http://www.squared5.com/ or http://www.dvd-tool.com/vro-to-vob-mpeg.html

After searching through some info... try copying the .vro file (so you still have the original) and change the .vro file extension to .mpeg or .mpg.

I'm finding all kinds of solutions... I just need to know specifically what you're trying to do.

    :D

    Sharyn,

thank you so much for your help.

For the moment I would like simply to view the finalized mini-dvd on mu PC, playing them on the PC's DVD player.

The PC is quite new (bought only 1 month ago) with Windows Vista pre-installed.

The problem is that Vista doesn't read the .vro files !

I've serched for any software for by-passing this problem but I haven't fount nothing.

WARNING: I'm not so skilled about PC management, and less than this about video-recording (thi is my very FIRST video-cam )

Thanks again for your time you've spent for me !

    Stefano

  16. If your knees don't buckle a little when Julie smiles and shakes your hand there's something wrong and you need to get it checked. She's a sweetheart!

Unfortunately (underlined) for me I shoot at the opposite side of the ocean, and the only opportunity I have had to look at her it has been on Youtube ... :(

For sure, if I had the chance to shoot a match in squad with her ..... well, I would have some serious problems to maintain my focus on the match :rolleyes::rolleyes:

But ... "never say never" !

As first step last year I joined USPSA as foreign member ..... ;)

As second step ... my dream in the draw it would be to come is USA for a match but ... being only an italian "A" class Production shooter I think the only chance I would have to follow the super-squad it would be as a spectator ... :D:D:D

And I think that's perhaps the best solution: much more time to look at Julie (and only sometimes at "the others" ....) :)

  17. That video is great, and so are those galls ....

But - as a practical shooter - I would like to express all my admiration for Julie and for how she's an excellent example for our sport.

She' s not only a beatiful girl but also a Top-talented champion and also a nice example of fairness, sportsmanship, and friendship !!

Well, probably you have understood that I'm a big fan of her ...

  18. Recently I've bought a Canon handcam for making movies during matches, training, etc ...

The product is the DC230 (a DvD recording one ...):

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controll...p;modelid=14788

The problem is that the files recorded by the camera on the DvD are in .vro format and I can't open they on my PC with Windows VISTA ... :angry2:

Sadly, I've bought a DVD recording handcam thinking that it could be easier to handle the filet to/from the camera and the PC ...

I dont' know if this problem is enlarged by Windows VISTA: can anybody suggest any solution ?

I've serched in internet for a software to convert the .vro files on .mpeg ones (or other format ...) but I haven't found nothing that works !
