  1. when transitioning from target A to target B, my eyes go first and the gun follows and tries to stop where the eyes are looking. When shooting, should the eyes be focused on the target and the front sight be blurry in the foreground OR should the eye focus be on the front sight and have the target be blurry in the background ?

Immediately after calling the shot on target A, look right at the middle of target B, then as your pistol is moving toward target B, bring your focus back to where your front sight will be when it lands on target B. So by the time the front sight is on target B, it is clearly in focus.

Transition speed is influenced by two factors:

    1) IMMEDIATE, instantaneous, calling of the shot.

    2) Simultaneous visual acquisition of the next target (either centrally or peripherally. depending on the distance of the target).

When you understand transition speed properly, there's really no "speed" involved. Moving quickly (to the next target) is the result of your INTENTION to shoot the next target as quickly as possible, and is manifested by the occurrence of the previous two conditions.

    I get it. Thank you.

  3. What's with the Tanfo firing pin springs? They are sooooo long and produce lots of resistance before the firing pin hits the primer. CZ 75 fp spring is about one inch long (?). Can you clip or replace the tanfo firing pin spring so as to reduce resistance and light primer strikes?

  4. I came across this post on another forum.

Under IPSC rules, the G24C can compete in Modified division if you trim a bit off the backstrap. It can also compete in Standard division if you trim a bit off the backstrap AND change to a non-ported barrel. The backstrap trimming is required for the gun to fit in the IPSC box.

Is this true, that the backstrap can be trimmed to fit in the ipsc standard box? If so, does anyone have a pic?

  5. So here is my current recipe: 124gr Berrys FN, 3.9gr of HP38 (same as 231), OAL 1.07.

I had two bad stovepipes (never have any with store brands). Note that when I load at 4.1 and above, no cycling issue. I am going to try with lighter recoil spring. First I need to chrono, but it seems to be above the 1008fps needed, as I hit the backdrop 100 yards away most of the time when shooting at the higher targets.

I'd love to know how the lighter recoil spring works out and if it reduces muzzle flip.

  6. I don't own an alloy framed 226, but I have shot many of them. I do own an all stainless steel frame P-226 Elite, and it has very little muzzle flip compared to the alloy framed 226's that I have shot. Maybe the beavertail helps too? My CZ Shadow has even less than the P-226 Elite. It really is an amazing production gun, IMO.

What weight is the recoil spring in the steel frame 226 and what is the power factor versus the Shadow ?
  7. I don't have a steel framed 226 so I can't test this myself...........the steel framed 226 is a 42 ounce gun but it has a lower bore axis than say a Shadow or a Tanfo which are both a few ounces lighter. Is the muzzle flip in the all steel 42 ounce 226 more pronounced than the Shadow or the Stock 2 ?

  8. A piece of the frame on my Beretta 92FS Vertec Inox broke off after about 70k rounds. It broke where the locking block contacts the frame. Almost all rounds fired were 147 gr. 9mm around 130-135 PF. I used it exclusively for USPSA Production and IDPA SSP division for several years.

Is the frame toasted ? Can it be repaired ?

  9. If i use the take down lever as a weak hand thumb rest and push down on it while the slide is cycling will anything nasty happen ? Like the slide flies off or the gun locks up ?

  10. My wife has had a Beretta 92FS for the past 15 years or so. I don't know how many rounds we've put through it, I'd estimate more than 6K but less than 10K. In that time, the only failure we've had was from a case separation, which blew the trigger bar out (was fixed in 15 minutes in front of the computer looking at disassembly videos).

The Beretta gets knocked in carry and duty circles for being too big and too heavy. IMHO, that makes it a pretty good competition candidate. With a set of Hogue wraparounds, the gun is hand-filling and doesn't recoil much at all. Magazines are readily available, duty-style Kydex holsters are easy to find. Where it falls down somewhat is in competition parts and accessories. It's a vicious circle - no one makes accessories for it since very few people shoot them. Few people shoot them because nobody makes accessories...

The Vertec does appear to fix one of my major issues with the Beretta. With a stock 92FS, you're pretty much stuck with the stock front sight, unless you want to get into some pricey gunsmithing. The Vertec looks like it has a dovetailed front sight, which is a big plus.

I've shot my wife's Beretta in competition a handful of times. In fact, it was competing with the Beretta that gave me the confidence to order the CZ I shoot now. I used the Beretta we had to ensure that the DA/SA transition that everyone claims causes kidney stones, gout, and general incontinence wasn't going to be an issue. I found that once the buzzer went off, I never felt the difference in trigger pull.

I do prefer the CZ for competition for a number of reasons. I think the CZ has some features going for it that make it a more suitable choice for USPSA/IPSC. However, they're not significant enough that it will make the difference between winning and losing, IMHO. If you like the Beretta and it's available, there's no reason not to shoot one.

I've used the Shadow in competition for about 5 years I think. I'm good with it. The 92 points perfectly for me like no other gun I have handled. I think I shoot the 92 just as fast. My only concern is frame cracking. I know a guy who had two (2) Elite frames crack in him around 2005. I am wondering if it was bad metallurgy or design flaw. Maybe the newer manufacture is better than the old. I just don't know..........

  11. I like the Beretta 92 platform. I want to use one for IPSC production minor pf. I don't care about slide safety, decocker etc. All I care about is sight picture, trigger pull, and sight recovery, and accuracy. I think I can get all those things from a 92. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The only thing I worry about with the 92 is cracked slides and frames. I hear a lot of horror stories and that is what is preventing me from buying a nice little Vertec I found. I've heard of frames cracking after 30,000 rounds or less. SO, is there a problem with design or metallurgy ? or is all this overblown ? Any info or advice would be appreciated.

  12. I like the ergonomics of the Beretta Vertec and I want to buy one. The gun I want to buy is on the other side of the world so I can't play with it. I have heard that is has a short reach double action trigger and that it really sucks.Does anyone know if the trigger can be smoothed and lightened to say : 3# s/a and 6# d/a? I have small hands and I want to use it for IPSC.

  13. I like the steel frame and I like the extra weight. And I like the thumb safety and an adjustable sight. And I like a rail on the gun, the heavier the better. Is there a Beretta out there that fits that description ?

  14. Battlefield 3, Modern warfare 3, Left for dead 2, Gears of war 3, all of these are great shooters.

Edit: Forgot to mention they are all for xbox 360

I hate to sound skeptical but I have a hard time believing that any of these games will improve your Action Pistol skills. Then again, I may be wrong...

    It might help with transitions..........
