Same for me on the just getting used to the optic. I had dabbled in carry-ops and never really liked it and had stuck with limited and single stack as well. Then I started tinkering with limited optics and I'm really enjoying the optic now that I've used it more. Also when I was  shooting carry optics and such in the past I was using a smaller optic but, when I started in limited optics I bit the bullet and bought an SRO and I think that makes a huge difference on its own.

Yesterday a stage had an opening between walls with a barrel stack in the middle that made you move a bit to see all the targets. Best 3 per target. Then you moved left and right to the ends to shoot the remaining targets.  I was able to transition between targets faster then I ever have before while using an optic. Felt like a good step forward.

  2. I'm shooting LO with a CZ tac sport I already had. I bought it with a 40 upper for Limited but it came with a complete 9mm upper that I hadn't really used. Put an SRO on a dovetail mount and it's working well for me.

This is the first optic I've used and I'm starting to get more comfortable with it. It's a fun change from shooting SS and Limited and I did enjoy shooting major.

I counted 8 dots for my competition guns.  No dots for my EDC guns. I recently shot an NRA D1 target at 50 yards with no misses with my P320 carry gun. That took away all my desire to put any dot on any of my carry guns. Stats show a real engagement will be much closer, and since I shoot 500+ rounds weekly competitively, I'm much more confident in Irons only for EDC.

I shoot a few USPSA matches a month. I'm just curious what type of competition shooting you're doing shooting 500+ rounds a week.  As far as the other shooter saying lasers are such a huge advantage, go shoot an action match using your laser and let us know the results.

I do shoot some outlaw matches in my area, both steel with a handgun and 3 gun matches. I also shoot USPSA club matches and am currently a member but, as mentioned earlier I will probably let it lapse this year.

I don't run  matches any longer so I have no say in what the clubs put on. If they want to give USPSA money for no reason, they have the right to do that. If they wanted to do PSCL or something and put a few hundred dollars extra in the clubs coffers ever year, that's fine with me too, I will shoot either

At least PCSL has their own rule set instead of essentially shooting USPSA without affiliating. The PCSL matches are quite a bit different aren't they? Last year I paid for a 5 year membership good till 2027. I'm 70 now. I hope to still be shooting then!

The .org is still getting support through activity fees and classifier fees.

I honestly wish that the club would get all the money if it was non-members shooting. I like to support the clubs that actually do all the work. That's one of the reasons that if my area went to pscl I wouldn't have any issues at all

There's always outlaw matches if enough shooters feel the same way.

  6. In my area for some years they had a SS vs Production only match. It was pretty popular. Most shooters who shoot other divisions also have Production or SS guns. But eventually they just started allowing the other divisions to get more shooters signed up.

This shows how dead the division is. Clearly lots of people have all the gear they just don't want to use it. The only way to get them to turn out and shoot is if you don't allow the divisions they want to shoot.

That's true for some people. But are they really going to travel to the match to shoot what they don't like? There are also people who love shooting SS and it would be their preferred  division but not when there are so few shooting it these days. They shoot other divisions in their locals.

  8. I have 3 matches per month within an hour of me. I do see shooters online who shoot 6-7-8 matches per month. I could see that many matches burning someone out sooner. We aren't  in a large population area and the monthlies aren't hard to get into. It does help to have reasonable expectations on your match placement depending on the amount of work you out in. Shooting different divisions keeps it interesting.  Sure, I'd like to shoot better but apparently not enough to actually put in the work to get there. I enjoy the matches and people I shoot with.

  9. I've shot several matches now in LO with an optic. In dry fire practice at home with an occluded dot I can see the target with the dot on it a lot better.  Almost everytime. But at the match I'm having a bit more trouble. I'm not shooting occluded at the match. I really need to get out and practice some live fire from draws to transitions to get some confidence.
