Seems like you'd have better competition in one large versus two split divisions.
If they were like SS, Revolver, Limited 10, and lately Limited and Production. Is the level of competition meaningless in Open and Limited now because CO is the biggest?

What's wrong with having a few large divisions instead of a zillion small ones?
It remains to be seen but CO and LO separately would probably be two of the largest divisions. I don't see it as better to have one division at 60%+ as opposed to maybe 35/25%. Just a guess at this point.

I do believe each division can stand alone. Despite the overlap and similarities, there are certainly enough shooters to fill the ranks of both.
Agree. No need to have one gigantic division. I think you'll have more unhappy shooters if you make CO 15 rounds or some other change just to differentiate the 2.

Never been to nationals but I try to make several Level 2 or above matches each year. I haven't seen full staff reset but some matches do have staff reset of activators and moving targets. I do like that for consistency. You should be able to demonstrate to a squad how to reset them but sometimes you still have problems.

Every CO gun is LO compliant. Plus you get to add a magwell and a thumb rest and even a racker if you want.
Going to 15 in CO will not alter match participation to any measurable degree.
True. It might just change the balance of participation in CO vs LO.

I just don't think current CO shooters would be happy if they restricted them to 15 rounds at this point in order to differentiate CO from LO.

The matches available to a shooter can vary a lot depending on your location. Locally for me there are no outlaw matches. 3 USPSA and one IDPA. Of course the farther you're willing to drive changes whats available. But I see people in some areas where IDPA is very popular and not USPSA.

I see no reason to combine LO and CO into one gigantic division. Both are popular enough to justify keeping them seperate. As far as major/ minor in LO it's seems obvious at this point that a high percentage of shooters want to shoot 9mm minor at no disadvantage to shooting major. I enjoy shooting major in Limited or SS but the number of others who do is dwindling.

The nearest (over 2 hours) club shooting PCSL doesn't use the PCSL target with the K zone. As an outsider looking at it that seems like the biggest factor differing PCSL from USPSA isn't being used

Do you have easy inexpensive access to .357 brass or is it easy to make out of 40 brass.

I use a couple mags for my reload that very rarely hit the ground. I have enough mags for the first mag that I can just switch out for a clean one because they nearly always hit the ground. If it's a small match with small squads I just switch dirty for clean. But with bigger squads I'll just clean the one that hits the ground because there's plenty of time to do it.

You are correct sir and I was just explaining why that is.
That was a good explanation.

That's because single stack mags the rounds tend to slide up the tube. In double stack mags the rounds roll as they go up the tube. Any dirt acts like a wheel chock in front of a tire.
My post was a response to a previous poster who said the doublestack mags were more forgiving then singlestack mags. That hasn't been my experience.
-
For me 1911 mags are much more forgiving then double stack mags. Stock double stacks are also more forgiving then when you add extended basepads to them. That's when they get more sensitve to dirt.

Welcome. Yes, plinking can be fun but I have much more fun competing.
-
At this point if you're shooting in lo cap divisions in local matches there are usually very few in those divisions. Rarely will there be more then one or two in SS, sometimes 0.
-
In my area it isn't a big deal. They might get more reluctant to change if too many shooters started asking but I haven't seen a problem.

What level of PF are most Open shooters using for steel challenge?

If anything, Production going to 15 strengthens the case for combining L10 and SS.
If the 3 divisions were combined, SS, L10 and Production , there might be a decent number of shooters for a division. With just SS and L10 there won't be enough to matter.

Nice! Howdy from Northern California. 100 miles north of Sacramento. I've shot matches in Clovis before.

Thanks. The area I live in is typically 100+ degrees in the summer and I haven't had a problem. My pf has crept up to upper 170s and could have been a little cooler weather at a couple of majors. Now I'm giving Limited Optics a try shooting 9mm minor. Need to do some testing with afew different powders before shooting a major match.

been saying that for years,, but I would add a low cap 10/8 division, 10 round minor 8 round major division as a catchall for mag ban states, revolvers and 1911's...
As an avid SS shooter for years I've thought it might work combining Production, SS, Limited 10 with the 10minor/8 major scoring. Only because of the dwindling participation in those divisions. But now with Production going to 15 that kind of messes that idea up.

On our local dusty, fine dirt ranges I'll generally use the same mag to reload on the stage because I rarely have to drop it to the ground. My first mag I'll nearly always clean after picking it up. Just one mag, only takes a minute. Right now in the winter the ground is more of a hard compacted surface and unless the mag hits the ground nose first, require less cleaning.

In years past I'd heard that the Blazer was popular for steel. Has that changed or was it ever true?
