That gun was the inspiration for my version of the "Buck Rogers" Buck Mark pistol.  Ichiro got a good laugh out of my homage and the first time Mike Voigt saw it he said "If you tried to rob a bank with that, you'd have to shoot someone before they took you seriously!"

I like how the frame is even molded to accept the barrel in the grooves. Makes it much cooler. Took me a second to see where the trigger shoe connects fully haha

as quietly as a Ghost gun. ATF is coming after them. DWX epitome  of a ghost gun.

Because they can't be found--be nice to see one up close one of these days. I've been curious to see any update but haven't found anything online.

Not to hijack the thread, but this one is interesting too. Does anyone know the details ? All it says on the post is that a Japanese shooter used it back in 1991 and returned with it.

Edit: A comment on the post a couple of pages below shows this revolver and says "Former Gun photographer Ichiro Nagata designed this gun in early 90’"

If the field of view is too small that isn't good.

I think that our perceptions often mislead us.  The Timer can keep us on the right path.   Set up a drill and run it with the different optics and let the best time confirm or deny the perception.    The drill should be representative to the type of shooting you do, and accuracy needs to be a factor.  Don't shoot it with your limited gun, you might be faster.

thank you. I was at the range this morning and I already see a difference here--with limited gun I feel like I'm looking/focused at the target as my shot breaks and when doing with the rts2 I am looking for the dot and then match it to the target, which feels slower right now. Is that what you are talking about?

  5. I've been shooting Limited and just got an Open gun to start in that division. It came with a rts2 6moa. I already have a 1moa SRO, 3moa Venom, and 6moa Viper that I use on various range guns and after looking through them all and playing with them thinking about uspsa, the difference that seems the most important to me is the size of the shell/lens surface (or whatever the proper name is) that I have to look through. Seems like big window to look through is key, but that doesn't seem to factor much into the discussion here. Is that just a given that I should use one with a big window or no?

    CZ TS 2

Any word on a .40 Version being released ?

Judging by CZ's websites, it doesn't seem to be soon. CZ's European site CZ TS 2 series (czub.cz) only lists 9mm model available in three versions (standard, racing green, deep bronze), while their US site CZ TS 2 | CZ-USA only lists the 9mm model and only in the standard version.

As a side note, based on the description, the Deep Bronze version has replaced the "Orange" designation. So, instead of coming out with a "TS2 Orange", they now call it TS2 Deep Bronze. The Racing Green is the standard model with added thumb rest, shadow 2 mag release, and height-adjustable rear sight. I have the standard model and put CZ TS adjustable sights on and mags got extended base pads and spring kits, all from CZC. I absolutely love the gun. Trigger was 1lb 10oz out of the box.

Kevrend, Is your pistol a 9mm or 38SC? I'm not a fan of 9mm major, my pistol will shoot 38S or 38SC, I choose 38SC. As stated above, MBX are expensive, but damn good mags. I have owned MBX for one of my pistols for 5/6 years now, they have run right out of the package with no tuning! can't say that for the others. For my other pistol, I had to resort to Tanfoglio LF mags and use Taylor Freelance mag extensions, takes a little work, but have functioned well since last year. MBX wasn't in production at the time, I would have gladly paid the price. If you need assistance, let me know.

For jt1207, small hands are why I use Caspian, tried one years ago at an area shoot, I now have two, no regrets. There are some parts that are Caspian only, mag release, safety, trigger, everything else is 1911.

    thank you!

Or better yet, have your buddy register here if he has not yet and post his story. There are still quite a few Caspian-based pistols floating around. 😉

I actually looked at buying a Caspian double-stack-based gun because I have small-ish hands and was told that they are a little smaller in circumference than some others, so I would be interested in hearing about experiences with them.

  8. Just bought this Sunday and it gets shipped out today to my FFL. I spent the last two months looking for an Open gun. Never shot Open before (I shoot Limited with Bul SAS II and CZ TS2) so started research from scratch and got chance to shoot two 2011-styles and a Czechmate. Looked at Bul SAS II UR, Honcho, and went into possibility of ordering Venom, Carne, Nevermiss, Brazos, Rafferty, CK, Infinity and then Prasky and Doug Jones because I'm in MI. They all look really nice, seem to be of very good quality, and each brand had multiple recommendations. For someone new like me, trying to develop criteria to narrow down choices can be a bit overwhelming.

An opportunity came up to buy a used Infinity and feel good about the purchase. I don't think I got the bling that some of us girls want, but I feel comfortable with the build quality, especially after Infinity happily chatted with me for 20 minutes last week when I called with the serial number of the gun and asked about its history and what to expect.

A 6 is too light for major loads. I think guys run those for minor. I ran a 7 with major loads for a short time. Gun was really flat but after a few matches the gun got dirty enough to have an occasional stoppage. I now run Wolff 8# variable and it will power through dirt and gunk.

6lb is what PT sells with their Honchos for Major

EDIT: apologize, just saw that someone else already mentioned this

Nightmare to get to run. My buddy has one and it took a year or so of tinkering and then finally a gunsmith giving it an overhaul to get it running consistently.

Don't waste your money. Buy a Czechmate or 2011. Dan Wesson company does not compete in USPSA and thus made a gun that failed miserably. It's not longer in production

What about if you put Kevrend in touch with your buddy so he can get some insight into how to make it run well?

The Czechmate is 9 mm, not 40 Cal

    Big difference

I thought about that. For the difference between 9mm and 40 at 180 PF, does 9mm produce more pressure relative to 40 at a given PF (in this case, 180)?

In other words, how is a 180 PF in 9mm (124gr at 1450fps) more potentially harmful to a functioning gun than 180 PF in 40 (180gr at 1000fps) holding other things equal (frame, slide, etc)?

  12. I just looked up Winchester white box 180gr 40S&W and velocity is 1020fps (data from Winchester's own site), which means it's 183.6 PF--which is above the 180 PF discussed in this thread. That would be odd if someone was unsure about shooting factory ammo in their gun, wouldn't it? While 180 PF might be hotter than we like for uspsa, it should be perfectly fine to shoot, right?

I've been running a 6.5 MOA RMR for several years on a carry G19 that I was shooting in USPSA Open. I am over the 6.5MOA game. It's too broad. My buddy picked up a 1MOA SRO and it's dreamy. I think I'd be torn between that and the 2.5MOA SRO.

I've got a 1moa SRO and a 3moa Venom on my RFPO guns and it surprised me how close the dots look in size. I'm not even sure that I can tell the difference.

  14. another vote for blue loctite. Works excellent if I let it sit/cure for 12 hrs (overnight) and is removable. Only exception is in areas where there is heat as it seems to weaken the blue version. To remove grip screws that had been blue-loctited, I used a hairdryer to heat up the area and it helped to weaken bond.

I like the frame mounted thumb rest on my BUL SAS2 UR. I find it creates more of a consistent draw and forces my palm higher on the grip, which is good for recoil management.

Bul has two different versions of thumb rests on URs--v1 and v3 (v2 is discontinued). Version 3 is set at a steeper angle and fits my personal grip better. Version 1 has me reaching out too far on the gun to be comfortable. That's why I'll second StefVanHauwe's recommendation for "the right thumb rest, not just any."

FWIW I was notified that my gun will be ready around May 19. I ordered with the Veterans Day special so that will mark 28 weeks I believe.

I exchanged emails with Tiffany a week ago re: Honcho wait time and she said 30-week current wait, so that is consistent with your 28-week wait. I would love to buy a Honcho but geez that wait. That kills this whole season for Open, which is why I'm exploring other options to see what else is available (Bul SAS UR, or ??)

  17. Another vote for CZC extended base pads (and CZC spring/follower kit). I use them for my TS2, and CZC recommends when using those base pads in 9mm TS mags to also use CZC spring/follower kit. Have worked 100% in the short time I've been using them. Loads to 23 for 140mm in Limited minor.

Posting this here as perhaps I have the attention of fellow scorpion owners.

My question is, should I be able to feel any movement of the upper if I grab the barrel and twist? I can move it a millimeter or so either way. Can't move it up and down or feel any slop pushing it side to side, just twisting

Apparently VQ uses spacers under the lug on the lower to assist the barrel and lower fit. If you look at the log on the lower, you will see a small screw holding the lug in place. Remove the screw and you will (should) see the thin spacer(s) in place.

To tighten fit I believe you'll want to remove any spacers from underneath the locking lug in the VQ frame.  My very lightly used had only a single spacer;  I could not get the frame to slide into the upper w/o the shim.  I tried light rubber malet, but didn't want to go too hard.

Can others check for movement and have any of you dealt with the shim ?

I just checked and there is not any movement at all in the one I have. I bought the frame separate from the upper and with the frame I received two shims with a note (see pic). You can see that the two shims are still in the bag--I put mine together and it was tight with no play at all so I figured that I didn't need them.

Come up north and shoot USPSA with us at Houghton Lake Sportsmen's Club in Houghton lake and Chain O'lakes Sportsmen's Club in Mancelona.

    Welcome.

Didn't you have a uspsa yesterday at Houghton Lake? My husband almost went but ended up shooting a steel challenge match Saturday instead.

Hadn't heard about Chain O'lakes so I'll look it up now.

    thank you!
