the beef is with both.  I was a noob not that long ago and  still a "mid-pack nobody"

The difference is I showed up, read the rules and shot what I had for a while. After I figured that this was a sport that I wished to pursue, I purchased a gun that fit an existing division.

The tail needs to stop wagging the dog

    that makes sense to me.

    And that is the problem.

The organization has not made an effort to distinguish participants from competitors.  I am not talking about  contenders for national titles but those who actually take USPSA seriously as a sport.  As a competitor, I want a stable set of rules and an organization that actually discusses these changes before implementation.  I have no interest in the trends of activity fees or the increased participation of an intersectional coalition of noobs and Timmies.  It has nothing to do with reluctance to change or "manhood" or anything other than the fact that most who take the game seriously (not necessarily do it well) don't care if the  {insert group here} show up or not at matches.

What I hope is that these new shooters morph into competitors.

I can understand your position. Although, this sounds like a beef with uspsa leadership, and not so much people who shoot uspsa. And remember, you were a uspsa "noob" at one time too.

The problem is they are trying to get where they know we are going incrementally instead of just tearing the bandaid off.  Once we/they quit listening to people that have an unhealthy fear of change...the rules probably will settle.

I haven't been around long enough to understand what you are saying here. I obviously get the band-aid reference but what division is headed where?

Why not allow 9mm Limited Major?

Yes, I know it will obsolete your .40.  There have been a lot of rule changes that obsoleted previous equipment.  It stimulates the economy as everybody has to get on the bandwagon.

i understand your thought process but I don't think that is the solution. Someone more experienced/knowledgeable than me maybe could chime in here, but I think the reasons 9mm Limited major would be a difficult sell are:

    1) the high-pressures of the round would make it a higher recoiling round than 40 in a Limited gun (a division that doesn't allow compensators), so that would effectively be a disadvantage rather than an advantage

    2) Seems like all the guns we are thinking of when discussing shooting Limited with 9mm are not built to handle 9mm major, so that would not advance the idea of having people shoot something they already have/is already popular

    3) Factory-made 9mm major is in short supply, which means many of those who shoot the caliber resort to reloading, which then presents another hurdle for the type of person we are talking about here

I assume you know the whole reason that many LE agencies are transitioning to 9mm. It's because in the name of diversity, they hired weaklings and sissies and scaredy-cats who can't shoot accurately enough to qualify with a 40, so they gotta dumb it down so as to not look politically incorrect and get AOC mad at them.

We already have 5 divisions where 9mm is either de-facto required, or at least not a disadvantage most of the time (ss).

Reading the above, I think you and I share the same extreme disappointment in what is happening in some LE agencies (I merely have an outsider's view, and I think you probably have a much better finger on the pulse of it).

To clarify my position a bit, I am not advocating for yet another 9mm-focused division. I saw this thread as a discussion on the popularity of Limited minor and am thinking through how it's popularity could be increased. I rotate shooting guns in uspsa based on what I feel like shooting at the time and haven't considered minor/major yet even as I know doing so doesn't help me in terms of classification or "moving up" in the sport.  The sport is just so fun and I really like being around the people. And, to be honest, it is a little intimidating to be a uspsa newbie.

Are you suggesting that new gun owners (women and millennials) have been flocking to their LGS and buying 9mm 2011s?? Highly unlikely.

No, I don't think many would suggest that--based on price alone, I think we can rule that out. But there is actual data behind the record numbers of women and millenials purchasing guns in the past year. Limited minor seems to be a great fit to shoot 9mm + guns with >10 mag capacity + iron sights. Would be great to attract people who could experience the fun of shooting in a much more dynamic setting than the static, slow-fire range.

  7. Seems that single action 9mms are perfect for Limited minor. All those double-stack 1911s/2011s that are super fun to shoot in 9mm (and seem to me to be really popular) should be a natural fit. And at the rate that women and millenials have been buying guns this past year, as some of them get interested in shooting sports, then (I'm secretly hoping) more may shoot in the division.

  8. I shoot Limited minor with my CZ TS2 and love it. I'm new to uspsa and am just excited to shoot a gun i really like. I also shoot a Bul SAS II in 40 for major but the minor/major scoring thing takes a backseat right now to the fun i'm having shooting guns I like. And I suspect there may be other women like me.

I think grab it and stick it out there is the way to go. It'll take the shortest path pretty naturally. If once it's out there the dot isn't there adjust so it is and pay attention to how that feels. Then on subsequent reps try to nail that feeling. Every rep check to make sure you got it right and adjust if needed and note the feeling. Keep trying to duplicate it. Over time it wont matter if it's a dot or iron sight, you'll look to a spot and the gun will appear there.

Transitions work the same way, the draw is just a translon from your holster to the 1st target really. On a transition you don't bring the gun in only to push it back out so you can find the dot. You just look to the next spot and the gun will appear there.

I definitely need more practice and more reps here for what you suggest.

The more this game starts to grab you, the more you start dissecting it.  Then you realize that if you hold the spoon at a different angle while eating breakfast the morning of the match, it may enable you to shave a few hundredths off the time on your 3rd stage...

    :)

Haha I knew there was a secret trick! I'm still in the "I need to wear my lucky socks" phase.

I find the stock VQ trigger too far rearward.  I am changing to a tandemkross victory flat face  ( Have this in my sw22 victory ) .

Here is an overlay of the profiles.    Yes the 2 holes at the top are lined up.

I can see how it could feel better for some. The flatness of the trigger would work for me but with my shorter fingers, anytime the trigger is more extended then I start to like it less

Those are all good valid points.   I think the myth is that you are going to pick up a gun with a dot and magically be good with it in a couple of hours of practice, oops not going the happen.  If one does a lot of dry fire from lots of odd positions and does reload practice I think you could get good in a few months.  Just like guitar playing it is muscle memory and that is the same way you build your index.

quite honestly, I thought I was going to be able to simply "magically be good with it" but that's not the case

  13. 1 hour ago, CocoBolo said:

If you asked me how to find the dot, I'd say look at the target!  Exactly your focus needs to be the target then bring the gun/dot into the filed of view.  In steel challenge your eyes go to the next steel first as you transition.   Tracking the dot only slows you down.

Thank you, I think I can visualize what you're saying. I still need plenty of work on steel as well.

Those of you who are slower with a dot are using it incorrectly.

Focusing on the dot instead of on the target, trying to see the world through the optic instead of looking past/around it, and not finding the dot on the draw (clear sign of a poor index) are not the dot's fault but yours.

Putting a piece of opaque tape over the front side of the lens and trying to shoot with a dot that way will show you how good or bad you really are.

okay thank you for the correction. I went and read a few of the posts about taping the optic lens and I'm going to do that Wednesday and see how it goes.

In my opinion you will never learn how to shoot "hoser" stages/ close targets or what an acceptable sight picture is at 1, 3, 5 7, 10 and 15 yards.

The majority of the targets will be at (a lot) closer distances, it would make more sense to me to train at those distances and just take a few shots per training at 25 yards.

A while ago I had a drill setup for me and a friend of mine I think at 5 yards, my friend told me that was "too easy" because of the distance.

He was a full second slower than me, I did it in 3 seconds and he in 4 seconds. (no movement involved and his draw is better than mine)

Oh okay, thanks, I appreciate the input!

Just got my Checkmate back from Cz Custom Shop.  Set up with comp, C-More, charging handle, *thumb rest [generic]*, and action tune.  WOW!!!  I’m in LOVE with it!   It’s probably my favorite pistol to shoot and my first time with a dot.  The accuracy is almost like cheating with this pistol.  It begs to be shot fast.

What do you guys use to clean the lens on the C-More?   I been using these lens cleaning wipes.  On my phone and iPad they work great.  On the lens they do but it’s like they leave a haze a little.  Just don’t want to scratch it.

What pound recoil spring is recommended? Stuart told me if I’m not having an issue with cycling than leave it with factory spring.  Is this 13lbs?

Where can I find more mags?

I looked at buying a Czechmate and the info I saw said stock is 13lbs. I was going to buy an 11lb to test as well. There’s a couple YouTube vids showing gun shooting with stock 13lb so may give you idea of how flat that shoots with that weight.

  17. Wow happy to hear shooting PCC lets you still be involved in USPSA. My husbands eyes have declined a lot in the last 5-6 years and neither the reading glasses nor the distance glasses are ideal for shooting. him switching to Open after shooting his beloved Limited division was a sad admission of where life is at. So I can empathize with you.
    Wish you the best!

The new Glock is exceptionally reliable.

I have a G44 with Johnny Glock trigger system and flat-face trigger and I agree with you--it's been super reliable and fun to shoot. And it weighs about one pound, so light and quick. Probably be fun to leave the Scorpion at home and shoot a steel match with it one of these times.

  19. I'm new to uspsa but a long time range shooter. I range shoot solely at 25yds and I feel like shooting at a greater distance there relative to what I see in uspsa matches has made me feel very comfortable shooting all these close up uspsa targets (especially the partially obstructed ones). Does this sound like a viable theory--that with limited ammo and access to only a regular range, one could use what little ammo he/she has to shoot solely at a greater distance and that would be good use? Limited ammo doesn't allow much shooting, and regular range doesn't allow movement, rapid fire.
