Don was very responsive on Facebook, less on email. With Facebook shutting him down, I would keep trying.

I appreciate it. I shot him a message on his new Facebook page, I'm guessing he may just be busy given the dynamic times COVID-19 has us in right now.

  2. Anyone have success in getting in touch with Don for a build recently? Shot him a message on Facebook and an email last week, haven't heard back yet. Understandably so, what with everything that is going on recently; just wondering if he perhaps isn't accepting orders for new builds at this time?

  3. I'm wondering if using a single-sided mount that centers the optic in-line with the bore on a regular width frame, such as the Everglades mount, would still do so if used with a CGW XWF Heavy Open frame.

I can see via the description and pictures that the XWF Heavy Open frame has a recessed area where the 5x mounting holes are, but i'm unsure how deep the recession are cut and if it would mimic that of a regular width frame.

Anyone running a XWF Heavy Open frame that would be able to comment on if they were able to center an Everglades or similar mount over the bore?

I built this with 3/4” square welded steel tubing, but could easily be constructed from 2x4s. Two legs in the front. Two screws anchored into the wall studs in back. 24” x 20” and far more rigid than my old table. The  top is a piece of 3/4” oak from home depot meant to be the top of a stair in a hardwood stair case. It was cheap and with a coat of polyurethane, works great!

Awesome closet setup; definitely going to use this as inspiration for my own!

  5. Crazy how I found this thread just through some random browsing on this board and never realized how many other people are cross-eye dominant.

I found out I was cross-eye dominant when my team first hit the flat-range with our service Glocks. I was new at pistol shooting in general, so of course I sucked in general, but couldn't for the life of me stop from seeing double and having things blur up while trying to focus on the front sight post. I have astigmatism in both eyes as well, so I'm sure that also contributed too. Eventually, one of the guys trying to help teach me fundamentals asked me if I was cross-eye dominant. I had no idea, so he showed me me how to do a quick "test" by putting my index fingers and thumbs together to form a triangle and look through it in a certain way; I'm not sure exactly how it went anymore, but we determined I was left eye dominant while being right handed. Been shooting pistol with my face slightly tilted to the right ever since, leaving my dominant left eye positioned behind the sights. Never had an issue with shooting rifle, but I've also never shot rifles using iron-sights besides for zeroing BUIS. With optics, both magnified and unmagnified, I had no trouble shooting both eyes open.

For those suggesting just swapping hands to shoot long gun; oh man, you guys must be quite ambidextrous to begin with! It would take a LOT of effort for me to train shooting weak-handed to the point where I'd be comfortable shooting that handed by default.

The load I’m loading right now calls for 3.38gr powder. Setting up the powder measure I dropped several batches of 10 loads onto my scale and once dialed in always got 33.7-33.8gr.  Now I’ll do 5 drops and double it. Getting to be overkill at this point. It just comes down to when your comfortable with results especially when switching to new machine.

    Gotcha, thanks!

Hola! An email was sent out on 1/13 advising of the delay. If you have a question or want to chat, give us a call or send us a message. With the current closures and craziness going on we are focusing on supply, production and responding to all inquiries as quickly as we can. We will not be monitoring this forum or providing information here. Again, get in touch with us with any questions. I guarantee we have better information than what you’ll find here regarding your Honcho : )

    Stay Safe - Tiffany

Great to hear that you guys are keeping production open, thanks for the update. Will be in touch soon to inquire about possibly placing an order, depending on lead times.

I’m using the mechanical powder measure on my Evo w Autodrive and it’s been great. I’d read some posts prior to its arrival about issues (although those look to be from old designs mainly) so I have been checking at the beginning and ending of each session and it’s been really consistent with titegroup that I use.

I think I read somewhere that they came out with a revised mechanical powder measure at some point; when was your Evo purchased?

For USPSA there is no restriction.  For SCSA (Steel Challenge) there may be.  The MD at one SCSA club asked me not to shoot my 9mm major load, because of potential damage to the steel and the possibility of a ricochet.  My load is a 115 JHP at 1470fps.  However, another shooter uses 124 RN plated at a lower velocity and the MD has no problem with that.  Some clubs have a 1250fps limit for steel, although none of the clubs I shoot at do.

I have major and minor loads all worked out, so it presents no problem for me.  I actually prefer minor in the 140PF range for steel.

    Ah, gotcha. Thanks!

I was asked not to shoot major at two clubs, so I developed a good minor load.  My home club no longer allows plated or jacketed bullets on steel, so I fitted a new barrel to the Open gun.

Please forgive the slight thread-jack, but I'm wondering if you can speak to whether either of these are becoming commonplace in a wider context at clubs within the tri-state area? New to the sport shooting scene, recently moved to NJ, and was looking forward to making it out to some clubs & matches in PA once I'm setup, was planning on shooting Open with 9mm major.

You have to call, chat or email and ask nicely. I wanted nothing to do with a Hornady case feeder. I needed standard priming because I don’t want electricity on press. I have the original primer collators on my two Revos and it is super nice not filling tubes. I didn’t ask if they sell it without conversion as I needed x54 anyway. Joe Angelo has been my sales rep.... Reasonable guy.

I appreciate the heads ups! Just curious, what is your case feeder of choice? I'm definitely looking forward to the new primer collator being released, especially if it actually ends up being 1/4 the cost of the current one; $2K+ is just way out of my budget for the feature, despite how nice it is to have.

If anyone has any misgivings about buying an Evo or Revo because of the PM.... You can order it without.

I ordered a basic EVO - since I already have two Revo’s - without a PM or case feeder. I added the regular primer system because I will be running black powder only on this press - no electricity. Paid $2200ish shipped with a x54 conversion. Waiting on a 4570 and 4440 conversion which will probably be delayed due to the crazy world we are living in.....

Awesome to hear that the basic EVO is available in a bare-bones configuration. I'm curious as to how much it costs without the standard priming system and x54 conversion. I don't see the option on the website, I'm guessing you had to call in a non-standard order? I'm definitely interested in one without the Hornady case-feeder (been reading that it is quite prone to frequent jams), mechanical powder measure (would be looking to buy the digital one separately), and standard priming system (would be looking to buy the soon-to-be-released $500 primer collator).

  13. Subscribing to this thread for ideas and advice. I believe I'm in much the same position as you!

Have a 1000sq/ft apartment in Bergen County NJ and looking to get into both reloading and USPSA for the first time. Gravitating towards a RL1100 to buy-once-cry-once, and also only plan on loading/shooting 9mm. My plan is to just purchase cleaned/once-fired reprocessed brass to avoid having to tumble it myself. Goal is to buy in bulk and try to be able to create my own 9mm major loads using 124gr JHP's for hopefully what comes out to be under $0.20/rd. No idea if that is do-able considering I don't want to clean my own brass, but I'm just starting the research process myself and have yet to run the numbers for specific bullets, primers, powder, etc.

  14. Hey everyone, been lurking here a while and decided to go ahead and make an account/introduce myself.

I'm a recently separated Green Beret veteran and just moved back to my home state of NJ to continue school and be closer to family. It's definitely a bummer here as far as gun laws go, but it is what it is.

I've never been a part of sport or competitive shooting communities; had plenty of buddies who were while I was in the service, but just never really the time myself. Now that I'm out and have more free time, I'm looking to check out the local USPSA and IDPA scene.

Currently own and shoot a single stack Dan Wesson 1911, will be looking to pickup a JP GMR-15 to shoot for fun & PCC division.

I'm moreso looking to have fun and use matches as a way to maintain/improve my shooting skills than get into competition shooting in a very serious way. Anyhow, looking forward to checking out the local matches, any NJ members on here?

    Cheers,
    J

  15. Looking to pickup a JP GMR-15 in the near future, and was drawn to the CODA Evolution handguard among all the carbon fiber choices for it's octagonal shape, trunnion mounting method, & M-Lok.

I've seen ample reports from users here in past threads noting that their Smoke Composites handguard has no flex or wiggle, but at least 1 instance of a CODA user that they have minor wiggle/flex.

Any current CODA owners care to weigh in on the rigidity of the handguard as compared to the original JP or other offerings by Smoke, etc.?

    Thanks much!
